I've set up a small hut on the realm at -125, -275. Inside it, you can trade in 1 diamond for 1 emerald block. The system is capable of handling many items at once and items of different type. It will return invalid items (items other than diamonds) and it will return diamonds when the emerald block stock is empty.

It's fairly small right now. However, I hope to expand it to buy and sell a greater variety of items.

I imagine it isn't that difficult. Hopper, trapped chest with a diamond in each space, with redstone behind it pointing toward a dropper/dispenser full of stuff, and a comparator next to the dropper/dispenser connected to a redstone lamp that indicates whether it contains items or not. Eah's is more complicated, of course, because he spent some extra time coding it to be user-friendly (returning invalid items, handling multiples, etc.).
