I was wondering whether it would be possible to have a item price list.

Why would this would help?
For new people on the server trading can be confusing, this would help by telling them:
1. What price is average for that item, so they know whether they're being flogged a high price.
2. What price the item they have is worth rather than having to ask everyone on the the server what the item is worth.
And even for people not new to the server, by having a set average price so people can decide what to sell their product.
How could this list be made?
Possibly by finding suppliers of the good in question and making an average of what they sell them at, or just having a community vote.
Where could this list be?
The most likely spot would be at either trade or spawn.

Even if the list isn't all the items, maybe just the most common (diamond, iron etc.).
Please reply and tell me what you think.
Thanx

Things similar to this have been suggested multiple times. Many item costs fluctuate from person to person, and from update to update (glowstone and nether brick for example). There are a few items at which there is a general consensus though, and this is diamond (item, block, ore) and other rarer items. It would be very hard to standardise these prices, and even then, people will deviate from this mean quite substantially in some cases.

The best option (in complete opposition to what you stated) is for a newbie is to ask the community if the price for a given item is fair, or if more negotiation is needed.

I don't think it is needed, as this problem can be solved in many ways. One more option will not add nothing.

I've tried making this myself on a couple occasions, and what I found is that the prices just fluctuate far too often for it to be practical. It's a good idea in theory but it's impossible when you actually try to implement it.

The best way to find current prices is to ask in chat and, if in doubt, consult a longtime player that you trust or look around the trading section of the website to find the price.

The economy dictates the prices, and those change. Even if they didn't,

1. The economy is not "official", so there are no "official" prices, and
2. Making a price list would defeat the point of bartering.

Its funny how some say theres no official pricing policy but everytime someone tries selling something they get "corrected" thats its this price and not that.

If someone wants to sell something for higher or lower then what maybe considered the "normal" then let them. They shouldnt be told to sell it for what someone else tells them what they think is more fair.

If you dont like it then dont buy it.

What you described is, in most cases, merely a bargaining tactic.

Basically this. While I think a price list would be a useful tool, posting the prices at spawn or /trade would project the image that the prices are "official" which they would not be. In fact, it would probably need to be managed by a handful of active players, because this is not something staff will have time to create and keep updated on top of their other duties.

I currently have a google document that lists all prices, and I used it a while back to get some quick cash by selling things. I might post it for you soon, but before I go to the trouble of doing that I want to ask if anybody would want to take up the task of editing it and adding new items.

I can't take sole responsibility for it, but I could help keep it up to date. It'd be helpful if more than one person was on it though.
