Hey guys,

It's come to my attention that some players are abusing an exploit to place water in-air on near invisible string blocks.

However, as our lava/water system differers from most servers, I thought I'd bring this to a vote.

I previously tried to fix our "unique" water/lava behavior, but you guys voted to bring it back here: http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =5&t=10571

So, why string?

There difference between string, and let's say, torches, is that torches can't float in the air. String can.

Water floating in the air is most definitely not intended gameplay, while in regards to being on the ground on a block like a torch is simply a convenience.

So, vote! Either this bug will be fixed, or it'll become official intended behavior.

I was able to build and underwater dome and empty the whole thing out with string... And I use the string to shape the water in an architectural way for a few fountains that I've built.
Well, I suppose I could use signs to create fountains...

Hmmmm..... Signs?

Or string?

I like the signs more! *sarcasm*

Can't you still place ice blocks in the air and melt them to create free-floating water blocks? When a free-floating ice block melts it transforms into a non-flowing water source block. Since the water block never received a block update, it will stay non-flowing indefinitely. If done carefully, you can make a checkerboard wall of alternating water and air blocks.

Pretty sure if you destroy a ice block with nothing underneath it doesn't leave a water source behind.

I'm rather conflicted here. On the one hand, it certainly isn't intended gameplay and the whole floating water thing is kinda funky and non-vanilla. On the other hand, I'd like to see Roo's water slide completed eventually and I feel like this isn't a very widespread issue. I'm holding my vote for now...hmm

I think the ice will melt to water in presence of a high light level. But that still requires receiving a random block tick, so idk lol. If upon being melted to water it still doesn't behave like a water source block, it must be a bug on Mojang's part.

I voted yes. It's not an intended feature. It's supposed to be a challenge to create something great with the limited tools given to you. In the words of Jens "Jeb" Bergensten, "Sometimes the simplicity of how things work … is also how it equates to really interesting solutions."

And I'm not completely sure about this, but I think placing and/or breaking string earns you credits, which I believe should be removed. I remember it being used a lot for credit grinding.
