Hey this is Cooldude here. I got banned about a month ago for griefing in the Nether. I was just walking in a minecart rail and I wanted to go out into the real Nether. I went forward and backward along the railway for about 100 blocks but there was still no way out. Since there is griefing in the Nether, I just decided that i should destroy about 6 rails, 1 iron bar (Note that I did no \t have anything in my inventory), and 1 redstone torch to get into the Nether. After I had walked around and done some things, I pillared myself back up and inside the railway. Earlier, I had been running down the railway for a reasonably long time, so it took me about 5 minutes to get back to the portal. I went back into the real world and teleported to my house, later on, after doing some things, I teleported back to my house and left the game. Tomorrow morning, when I came back on, the game said I was banned! So I went to minerealm.net and I created a discussion on why I was banned. I was informed by an admin that I was banned for griefing in the Nether. I really didn't know that destroying a few blocks could get me banned and I am sorry for doing it. This all occurred about a month ago, and I am really missing playing on the mine realm server.

Incorrect, griefing is just as illegal in the nether as it is in the overworld. I would suggest rereading the rules here: http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =20&t=4200. This matter is addressed in the Common Questions section:

Q. Can I destroy someone's building in the nether?
A. You are not allowed to grief buildings purely for the sake of destroying them. However, special consideration needs to be taken due to the PvP in the nether. If you use a building/fort to take shelter during combat, people are allowed to break walls/doors to get to you. One of the important differences between combat in Minecraft and any other game is the ability to build/destroy stuff on the fly, and we do not want to squelch this. Note that this only applies in the nether. If you are PvPing overworld and start destroying buildings, you will get banned.

What you did had no PvP purpose. Not to mention the fact that breaking rails would not help you escape from the tunnel anyway.

And as a side note, you were probably thinking of looting, which is allowed in the Nether. Looting is fine, griefing is not.

I guess you are kind of right. I destroyed the rails and redstone torch for myself, but I actually did destroy the iron bar to get into the nether Jackavsfan

He's not kind of right, he is right. Greifing isn't allowed anywhere in any part of the world. Even if you did just break a few blocks you made it a inconvenience to others trying to travel.

They aren't random. Somebody put the rails there for a reason and it's extremely disruptive to travel if you're going along in a minecart and become derailed because somebody broke the tracks.

And in MineRealm, there doesn't need to be a "claim" for it to be considered griefing. Personally, if I build a road or railway though a public realm, I like to put up "No Griefing" signs. But just because this railway you found didn't have any signs indicating an owner does not mean that you can break the rails. This is true of any buildings on the map, overworld or nether. Griefing is not allowed.
