He edited his bid a few minutes after, pushing it past the end time.

Check your facts before posting, the edit was at 12:04. And my post was at 11:58. He was 1 minute late.

Wow, I really didn't think this would turn into a dispute... in any case, here's my take on what happened:

Hippo's bid of 36,000 was the last one to be posted before the official end time; since it was posted at 11:58, the auction extended to 12:03.

Laser's bid of 36,250 was then posted at 12:02, which is within the time limit. This bid should therefore be accepted, and the auction time extends to 12:07. (The fact that it was subsequently edited after the time limit shouldn't matter, as long as the valid bid was placed before 12:03.)

Laser then posted another bid (37,250) at 12:06; again, within the time limit. The auction was therefore extended to 12:11.

Eah placed a bid (37,500) at 12:20. This bid is not accepted, as it was beyond the 12:11 time limit.

The way I'm reading this, Laser is therefore the winner. There are a few lingering issues to address, though:

1) Can a staff member confirm that Laser's original (unedited) post at 12:02 was a valid bid of 36,250?

2) What should be done about the fact that laser posted two bids in a row? I would prefer to accept the 36,250 + stack of glowstone, rather than the 37,250 w/o glowstone. However, I'm unsure if it's allowable for me to take that offer, since I never specifically stated that items would be accepted, and therefore never stated how much a stack of glowstone would be worth for the purposes of the auction. I think the fact that the glowstone offer was made in an edited post would be irrelevant, as it would be equivalent to laser bidding 36,250 at 12:02 and then double-posted to offer 36,250 + glowstone at 12:04.

Look at my quote, the original was the same as mine. Then he edited it at 12:06, out of the time limit, because I bid at 11:58.

Oh, then this gets even more confusing...

If Laser's unedited bid at 12:02 was 36K + Glowstone, and Hippo's most recent bid at that time was 36K, then it seems like Laser would win, since even without specifying how much money I consider glowstone to be worth, it should be worth something (i.e. even if I say that a stack of glowstone is worth 1 credit, then Laser's bid is equivalent to 36,001 credits). So in theory, even 36,000 + a lump of coal would have been a winning bid.

That still leaves us with the issue of whether it's OK for me to accept items as payment at all (regardless of value). This is unclear since I didn't specify one way or the other when I created the auction.

I think we should probably wait for a staff member to post and clarify before making any exchanges.

If laser actually made a bid of 36,001rc, it wouldn't count as you set the minimum increments as 250rc.

Items should not be able to be used in bids as there is no set value for each item.

hippoface's bid of 36,000 credits was the last bid before the specified end date (Sunday July 15, 11:59:59 PM (US Central time zone))

There is no mention of a 5 minute extension after each bid in the original topic, and therefore any bids after the end date are invalid.

hippoface won.

End of discussion.
