The Idea
After seeing how much of a laugh it was when Intelli changed the tags, I decided to suggest the ability to change tags as a donor incentive!

Coding?
Because Intelli obviously can already fairly easily change tags, making this a donor incentive would probably be easy(er) for him.
(Seratias doesn't understand coding)

Why?
I bet it would be slightly, if not fairly, effective, in getting players with extra cash and a bit of humor to donate. Think of it as the tipping point for donation, where you love the server but still sort of would like something extra.

Layout
-After donating, you gain the ability to give only yourself a tag, although this may be changed.
-There would be swear filters, and all that shizz to assure cleanliness! Example: S***, Veteran, Staff
-During the month of Donor status, you can change your tag at any time, any number of times, to anything appropriate.

Pros:
-Much less coding involved than some other suggestions
-Small Donor incentive
-Even more stuff to talk and laugh about in chat!
-No lag

Cons:

A moderation system could be assembled, players could for example request 'IAmAnIdiot' to be added to the filter, and admins (or maybe some special task force) could take care of it and add it or not.

Not really. Probably less than 1/20th of the population are Donors, so there'd only be a few people on at each time with a random tag.

The point is that that 1/20th are the ones that new people notice first, and having custom tags can make the server look really cluttered and tacky when you have 'n00bKillERxXX' as tags infront of some donors.

The problem is, this is an incentive. Not that that's bad...

How annoying would it be to have people practically having conversations by changing their tag, and trust me, It looks terribly unprofessional.

In a worst case scenario, this being implemented, there should definitely be a limit to to changing, perhaps once a week. Donation 'levels' could be possible, and donating $5 could allow you to immediately change your tag.

On the topic of donating, I thought of an idea... A custom widget that appears when you have a verified IGN, using this would generate your order number, and effectively give you donor status immediately; and I have seen this done.

In the end, I'm pretty sure custom tags has been shot down before, an I certainly dont support it.

I know from experience that custom tags make the chat a rainbow whirlpool of colours that hurts your eyes. So... No thanks.

It used to be $100 for special tags. That was sometime ago though.
Adding unique tags makes it confusing for new players and unprofessional looking for a server. Plus, the only benefit of this for the players is as you stated "Something to talk about".
