My entry: a redstone daylight sensor

Within a few minutes of sunrise or sunset, this device should detect whether it's currently day or night time and emit a corresponding redstone signal. This can be used for all sorts of unique redstone creations. Lights that only turn on at night and doors that are only open during the day are only a few of the near infinite uses this device has. While the small model I've made here can be somewhat inaccurate, larger and more complex versions can be built for nearly instantaneous detection.

^ I used that to make a few things on my hardcore world, namely several iron-door bunkers that auto locked at night, and eventually a lighting system for my small town. Gotta love the humble BUD switch!
