I posted 3 auctions a few days ago. One for blocks, one for potions, and one for music discs. There were a few bidders and everything went well until I tried to collect from the winners. The music disc auction was a little bit different. I had 2 sets of discs available, so I thought that it would be an fun twist to have the 1st AND 2nd place bidders win a set.

Here's a link to the auction in question. http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6291

TexasHitman paid right away, however I wasn't online when Hyrdobud was until just tonight. When I contacted him about the auction he said he didn't remember which auction I was talking about. He had to look it back up, then when he read it again, he thought texas had indeed won it. I guess he forgot the part about there being two sets for bid and that he also won. He then said that he had just bought 8 realms and didn't have the 11k available. I totally understood the confusion and asked him what he wanted to do about it? I could wait a few days or a week, I thought, but before I could tell him that, he got defensive.

First he said that I lied, that I didn't include the "cracked" disc. I reminded him that on the listing it did say "with the obvious exception of disc '11'". He then accused me of false advertising and that it was an obvious scam! I took a few screenshots of the end of the conversation, as soon as I noticed things turned sour. I would have taken more, but I had no reason to suspect him of turning on me like that. He said he took screenshots too, and I encouraged him to keep them and post them how he liked because I, myself, hadn't done anything wrong. What should I do next? I don't want to try and get Hydro banned or anything, I just want him to pay his debts.

Suggestions???

That sounds like the hyrdobud i know. I've had this happen a few times when the bank was having auctions. I always did 2 things when the highest bidder backed out:
1. re-run the auction.
2. the person next in line pays up and the items would be theirs.
What i would do in your case is just re-run the auction. Just edit the description a little.

Thanks for the advice Texas. I might re-do the auction. Still not satisfied about the Hydro thing. Rather irked that he would welch on it and then try and blame me.

Since there are official rules now just make a ban request, if he completely refuses to pay you that is.

This, post a ban request.

This happened to me once. I was auctioning a chest, but when it was over the first place bidder said he needed the money elsewhere. So I thought, whatever, I'll just give it to the second place bidder. The second place bidder backed out too, as did the third place. In the end, I wasn't able to sell the chest.

Perhaps there should be a new rule instituted that says something like "If you are the winner of an auction you must pay what you owe and collect the goods." In other words, no withdrawing your bid after the auction is over. It's just annoying, guys. If you win an auction you should have to pay the auctioneer and take your winnings. However, I don't think the second and third place bidders should be required to follow through on their bids if the first place withdraws, unless it is expressly stated in the auction that the second or third place will also get something.

Actually Hydro, I was simply looking for advice on what to do about it. You welched on the deal and tried to argue about it, so I was at a loss for what to do.

Thank you for being insulting for no reason, you made this easy.

I would also like to point out that here:
Lm108 wrote:Recently Quentijn posted a fairly good idea for auction rules. So here are the new rules:

TITLE Auction: [ITEM]

LAYOUT
In-game Name:
Item(s) up for auction:
Starting bid:
Minimum increments:
Ending date:
Buyout Price (Optional):

Screen shots are also encouraged, because they provide proof of items, and it's easier to show what you're selling.
If auctions refuse to follow this new procedure they can be shut down at staff discretion.

EDIT: The ending date cannot simply be discretionary; you MUST give a certain length or a specific date and time.
This is an exact quote from 'New Auction Rules' and I don't seem to see anywhere stated that you must follow through with offers. Also this auction was ended a week later then when end date was posted, and 3 days later when he finally contacted me. Also, I took a grave misunderstanding to the words he used:
Falconis wrote:
Item(s) up for auction: I have the full series of music discs for auction
This led me to believe he has the FULL series. When I went back to review this thread I had bid on, I realized it was then NOT the full series which is what led me to withdraw my offer.
