I would suggest you do, the quicker people adapt to it, the less problems we'll when people start a new auction and say "but that derp doesn't use the layout and he doesn't get a remark herpaderpaherpaderp"

Thank you! I've seen far too many auctions with with shady stuff going on, usually because the seller wanted to get more credits. I'd also like to recommend:
  • Unless there are extenuating circumstances, or otherwise bidder and seller agree, a winning bid MUST be paid. Too many people are bidding lightly, then trying to withdraw.
  • Same with the seller. If you post it, consider it GONE.
  • If there is still active bidding, an auction can be extended. Seller would be required to post with original auction post how long they will be adding each time.
  • Alternative to a set time, have a "going once", "going twice", "SOLD" system. I.E. X number of hours after the last bid, seller posts with "Going once". (S)He repeats this the same amount of time later if there are no bids, and a final time, X hours after THAT, with the highest bid winning. Any time someone bids, it's reset back to before the "Going once".
I'd also like to point out that a 'buy it now' price SHOULD be somewhat high. The point is that someone wants your item enough to pay a little (or a lot) more than it's actually worth. A reserve, should you want to have one rather than just starting it there, should be an amount you would accept for your object. Be reasonable, because if your auctions routinely fail from not meeting reserve, it's likely to make it harder to do business.

I like this idea--if I ever hold an auction, it will be run in exactly that manner. Probably 24h after the last bid will mark the end of the auction.

I don't really agree with your 3rd point: if sellers are able to extend an auction when they want to than what is the point of having an enddate if they can keep adding more hours. Active bidding is rather normal at the end of an auction because of people trying to snipe the items :) furtermore active bidding is rather subjective.

In your last point you want an alternative for a set date, this is just another point that I think we want to get rid off: seller being able to extend and extend untill they are satisfied

It's not simply a free extension, though. You have the bid, then x hours later (I would suggest 6-8) seller posts "Going once", then x more hours later edits that to "Going twice", then a final X hours later, "SOLD to so-and-so for <bid>!" It works just like a real auction, and bidding WILL eventually stop. Indeed, as a seller, I would probably prefer this format, as it seems to me better able to prompt high bids. Of course, this is all predicated on sellers being able to put together something worth buying.
