So a few days ago I tried my hand at learning some gates and the such like and creating a combination lock. The first one turned out fine, but the second one, in which I complicated a bit, had a few glitches. I now know how to fix those, but seeing as it's not even a finished product, I didn't worry about them.
Anyway, the file is here:
http://cl.ly/EuSO (unzip first)
And the way to operate it is this:
1) If you put all the levers in their proper positions, the 'Lock Security' light will turn on
2) If you stand on the pressure plate with the sign 'this one' then the 'Plate Security' light will turn on
3) If both are on, then the 'Unlocked' light will turn on
4) When that, happens, all three doors will open
The 'Mob Grinder' door leads to some of my failed experiments at a mob grinder
The 'Storage' door leads to a small room with some chests and a light switch
The 'Wiring' door leads to a viewing area for looking at the wiring
Glitches:
If you don't do some of the switches correctly, it will still work.
The pressure plate by itself will open the mob grinder door.
I know this is nothing for you advanced redstone users out there, but I've only been learning for a few days, so this is kind of advanced for me.
So anyway, if anyone wants me to build one of these handy contraptions for them, please post here. If the lock goes above a 10-lever combo, or if you want to add in a pressure plate/buttons combo into it, you will have to dig out an underground room, or have a lot of aboveground space. The estimated space the wiring will take up is about 1/20 of a realm, so it's not too big.
