So, we now know/believe that MineRealm 5.0 will not be on a new server/map, but will instead be added to the current map, with the ideas of classic.minerealm.com and game.minerealm.com scrapped in favour of keeping the same map as the only MineRealm survival map.


Personally, I was really looking forward to a fresh start, however I know that other players wanted to keep their current builds/items so please vote and state your opinions on this below - try not to start a massive flame war calling people selfish/stupid etc. over their ideas/opinions if you can manage.

Edit: If you vote, please tell us why you have voted what, so the players/staff can gather an understanding of why people want a new map/the old map.

My thoughts...

Pretty much there was going to be a brand new server for 1.3 and all and then it was canceled.

If you guys are against this, feel free to create a thread in the suggestions forum expressing your opinions.

To be honest, I hate this new plan.

I know that myself, and a rather large amount of players were actually looking for MineRealm 5.0 to be a completely fresh start, with no credits, player.dat files, realms, or anything else carried over. It seems now that this will not be the case, and MineRealm 5.0 will not be a new map, but will just be an update, presumably to the realms system, to incorporate 1.3.

I think this will have a really negative effect on the server, as not only will the lack of free land near spawn severely hamper the chances of new players joining and continuing to play on the server, possibly leading to the server population continuing to decline.

For me, boredom with the current map was a huge factor as to why I wanted 5.0 to be a completely new server/map, as it is incredibly difficult to find free, unblemished land to build on on MineRealm, and as a fairly new player myself, I found that I was forced to explore the map in three directions to the map border first, before I finally found a spot of almost untouched land in a forest, which I have been doing my utmost to protect.

I think that choosing this route for the server, and MineRealm 5.0 will only achieve in helping the rich players of MineRealm to get richer (ie. those with vast amounts of glowstone/spawn realms), while severely hampering the chances of newer and poorer players to build themselves up to a level similar to that of the more experienced players, especially with the glowstone prices likely to rocket given this announcement.

So yeah, I hate this idea.

I liked the idea of the 2 servers very much, I think since it is a whole new sort of thing, we should make it a whole new map,too.

I'm the only "maybe" vote so far. I really like the current map, and back when discussion first began about switching maps, I was opposed to that idea. In the time since then, I've sort of warmed up to the idea of a new map, though I dislike the fact that we likely wouldn't be able to transfer money/items (I'm not looking for a "fresh start" or "level playing field"--just a different-looking world to build in). At this point I have a slight preference to staying with the current map, but I'd likely be happy either way.

Guys, this is pretty selfish of you. With a secondary server, Intelli has to pay more. What if he's sick of paying money out of his own pocket?

If Intelli is still up to pay for 2, I'd rather keep one survival only and then have the secondary server be the party server.

Maybe those alternative thoughts will put a bit more thoughts besides yes/no/maybe
