There has been way to much controversy (a bit lop-sided if you ask me) about the reason whether or not someone chooses to donate. On one side you have the group that says they donate in order to gain something in game. On the other hand, you have the group that says donating should be from the bottom of your heart, not to gain something. I say, "are both groups not achieving the same cause?" Should it matter if you donate for gain or donate because you want to help the server out? In the end, the money still goes to the same place, regardless of the reason it was sent. I'm sick of the posts of "added incentive for donating" being shot down because of one groups views. If you want the server to continue on and thrive YOU SHOULD BE SUPPORTING THESE IDEAS!!! For those greedy people out there (and yes, I am partially one of them) they'll hop right on the incentive boat. Now I'm not saying that the post, "FREE GOLD FOR DONATORS!!!" should pass; but those harmless added incentives, such as the /event poll that was just posted in the ideas forum, could help our MineRealm achieve even greater things. And yes, this may mean more work for some of the mods/admins/Intelli, but is it not worth the continuation of MineRealm? Does no one remember those days where we had 100+ people on and you could go basically anywhere in the world and still see someone playing? Well, this is one small step to bring that back. So stop dissing on the people that suggest an idea that could further MineRealm just because you think they are doing it for greed (because it is human nature to be at least slightly greedy). Instead, take an approach that says, "will this matter, and will it help?" Thank you for listening to my mindless midnight rants, and I hope you heed what I say....

Quite possibly one of the most well thought out posts I have ever read on any forum, ever.

I whole-heartedly agree. I too would like to see people wherever I am on the map. It would be nice, for ONCE, to encounter another person during my extensive nomadic wanderings under the worlds surface. Please, I implore the staff to look at this, and for the other players to read this and give it real thought. Dugs makes an excellent point, and these polls should be treated with more insight than they typically recieve. I don't want gamebreaking advantages for donors, but a couple of nice perks would be a nice touch to top off the warm, fuzzy feeling that the initial act of charity provides.

TL;DR It's an excellent point, and I agree for equally vaild reasons.

Well I heard it costs to keep the server running, and I play on this server a lot and have realms. the bills got to be paid some how so thats why I donate. dont care too much about the benefits of being a donor.

And I think everyone would agree that that's ideal. Donating for the sake of being generous and helping the server is great, and an unquestionably valid reason for donating--the arguments that occasionally pop up are about whether other reasons for donating (e.g. getting stuff) are also valid.

I have written in an earlier thread on this same subject, and I totally agree with all of you. I am dismayed at the arguments (when they do happen) about donating for the sheer love of the server. Yes, everyone who has ever had fun on Minerealm should naturally feel the desire to donate, and those who are able to afford it should at least consider doing so. The server is expensive to run and our staff is very committed to our community. So to reimburse them for their services, I think more people should back them financially.

I will also admit that my donations, past and future, aren't 100% selfless. I LIKE feeling like I have done something to help with the running of a server that I enjoy. I LIKE feeling even more connected to the staff and other players by having a light blue tag beside my name. I LIKE having possible future perks that can enhance my experience without harming game-play. Both schools of thought are valid and understandable.

So I hope that the staff continues to throw a bone out to the Donors to illicit more funds. And if as a selfless Donor you do not want any additional perks, that is cool too and you don’t have to utilize them. We all are working toward sustaining a great server because the alternatives are much worse, such as eventually having to pay a monthly membership, or that we lose Minerealm altogether.

I donated because I felt with all the time I spent here, I was a freeloader. Also, this one server has made my entire mine craft experience far better - I would not be playing the game if minerealm was not around.

I'm not going to lie and say 'oh no the tag is not why you donate.'

Would I of donated if there was no tag? Yes.

But, the tag is awesome. Having your text stand out is useful, and a lot of people not only trust you but take your word more seriously. I think even after I became a donor, people trust me more.

This might not be because of the tag, but after I became a donor, I haven't had one mod teleport to me when I'm mining diamond. (This may also be because they can turn invisible now, I think...)

Anyhow the donor tag is nice to have.. It's the only tag other then staff. And that's another reason I love the server, is because everyone is equal in less they've donated recently or of course are staff. It's simple, and works well.

So yeah, if people donate for the tag, so what - they are still helping the server and they know it.

Yes, of course, because more donations is going to magically bring in more players. *

How about trying to be welcoming to new players and such. You guys certainly don't appear to be the friendliest bunch for newcomers.

A great way to get to see people is to live in groups. Not talking about towns and cities, that could work, in theory, but there's not much public land around there.

Just get a few close friends and find a totally public area somewhere and start up a kind of base. It's far more fun logging on to see people and actually playing multiplayer.

Actually, there seems to be a lot of public land, but with people who go to ends of the map and set up shop there, and people who make little towns all over the map, public areas are beginning to get to be just surrounded by private realms, as far as I've noticed, but I might be wrong.

I agree intelli. Most people will just ignore new players (me too sometimes) and yet complain about lack of people. However, Is there any possible way we could attract more people?
