Hey everyone!

As we look ahead to MineRealm 4.0 (oh my!), we would like to gauge your opinion on the following topic: Realm sizes. Currently, realms are 50x50 chunks of land. This is a fairly large area, and discourages building in non-realm areas.

What I'm proposing here is the possibility of changing realm sizes to 10x10 areas! It may sound small, but when you map it out, it's still a decent amount of land. If we were to switch to a 10x10 realm system, all existing realms would be sub-divided into multiple realms. You would maintain ownership of all these realms. A 50x50 area would be turned into 25 10x10 realms.

What's the benefit of this? Well, with 10x10 realms, consider the following:

- Have a city? Sell pieces to players, rather than just giving building rights.
- More flexible. Want to build a 1000 x 10 railway? No problem!
- Easier for new players. This may sound bad, but in reality, with an "infinite" map, it'll be better.

Larger realms are far more swag.

I for one don't want to micromanage everything forever.

10000rc / 25 = 400rc.

The only problem I forsee is that with realms this cheap, we'll end up with a lot of players that normally would quit before making enough to buy 1 realm, buying one or two, then quiting. This could clog the map with rather useless realms. Not to mention the massive trolling potential of buying cheap realms right next to existing ones in an attempt to stop or delay expansion.

Edit: Also Kress has a good point, micromanaging 25 10x10 realms instead of a single 50x50 would be a pain for say, just changing the MOTD on them.

Ya have a point there...Could result in blockades of rival cities and the like.

On the plus side though, it would allow cities to expand in a more....precise way. Instead of buying a realm just to have a road from one section to another, they buy up only where the roads are going to go. Would make getting in and out of the Spawn cities easier if a group could own a length of 10x10 realms with a clear road.

Talked with some people just now, and they suggested a blend of the two. Not sure how it would work but the idea does have merit I think.
