I tried going on to minecraft.net and it didn't load. Also, on Twitter, notch said this (I think he might be referring to minecraft.net):

I can log in after like 20 minutes and I can't get into Minerealm... All I know is that the Minecraft site Is down.

Players can get in, but not the multiplayer servers. Any ideas on why this is? Is this a preparation for 1.8? It is not because of hurricane Irene coming, unless it is a safety issue if Notch is based on the East Coast.
