I've been hearing just a small amount of talk about freak outs over the amount of realms that are still free. Just some quick math:
-There are 693 purchased realms as of July 27th.
-About 30 days ago, this number was somewhere roughly around 410.
-3.0 came to be on June 12th, 45 days ago.
This means that the first 15 days of the server saw the purchasing of 410 Realms (4.1 million Realm Credits). This is a purchase rate of about 27.3 realms per day.
Over the next 30 days, the server saw the purchasing of roughly 283 Realms. This is purchase rate of about 9.4 realms per day.
This means that the realm purchasing market is slowly declining, as more players become satisfied with the property they own, except for a few ever-expanding nations.
Though it probably isn't realistic, if we were to follow this trend, by the three month mark, MineRealm would see a purchase rate of about 0.37 realms per day.
\/ The More Interesting Things \/
If it kept the trend of 9.4 realms a day for 18 months, we would have 5,769 purchased realms, out of the 40,000 on the server. Following this very accurate rate of 9.4/day, it would take about 141 months, or 11.75 years to claim the entire server. I think if MineRealm continues to exist by then, we will probably be on MineRealm 46.0, or something :o.
Here's a diagram. The red squares show how much land has been purchased. The green squares show free land.
Note: Microsoft Word is kind of mean and will not let me shrink those squares, so that is actually about 20% larger of an area than is to be true.
The moral of the story is yes: we should all be panicked about the world running out of space. Just like how in the real world we are concerned about our depleting saltwater supplies.
