I'd like to make a request of all the owners of spawn realms. Each of you is in a prime position to improve the game-play experience for the Minerealm community in general and new players in specific. I'm asking each of you to dedicate a small portion of (one of) your realms to the community.

What you do with this dedicated area would be up to you, but it should help new (and established) members of the server without any attempt at personal gain.

The benefits of altruism should speak for themselves: improved server quality and reputation, retaining new players, making the adjustment to the server easier, and gaining goodwill toward the benefactors.

I know most of you have already built a lot on you realms. I'm hoping you believe that giving back to the server you love is worth the effort. To get things started I've put some ideas below.

Thank you for your time,
-CirJohn

------------------------------------------------

Public Trading Stalls
One or more small rooms with all the features needed to allow secure trading. The most conservative version I can imagine is a small room with a steel door, a stone pressure plate, and a lever. The door only stays shut if both the pressure plate and lever are used. This would make a place for players to safely trade that could only be locked while in use. A sign or two explaining the features would assist new players as well. An entire trading stall could fit inside a 6 block wide cube (half below ground).

Schoolhouse
A building dedicated to teaching new players how the survival server works. Lessons should be more advanced than those in the spawn building. Possibilities include a guide to owning your first realm, lessons in player courtesy, advice on how to not get griefed/scammed, a full description of the pvp/fire/explosion rules, etc.

Public Portal
A public portal maintained by a major power block that attempts to provide safe passage to/from the nether. At the moment I believe only Foxtopia, Frogtown, and Celestis have the man-power needed to provide this service. (It would be interesting to see all 3 competing to provide a spawn portal. Can you say bragging rights?)

Realms Map
I'll admit that my last idea is the least realistic - a subterrainean chamber 200x200 in which each block represents a realm. Private realms could be tagged with a torch or a sign, allowing players to search for unclaimed areas or lookup who owns an area. Unfortunately this would require the cooperation ofalmost all of the spawn realm owners. Tbh this would make more sense as an automated addition to the spawn structure in the next version of the Minerealm mod.

I'm sure all the hard working owners of Minerealm would love to give away all the stuff they earned with their blood sweat and tears in order to appease lazy parasitic twats that joined and think they are entitled to everything.

This is probably the most formal begging I've ever read.

First, I didn't ask for them to give away anything. i asked for them to use a few blocks worth of space to help others.

Seconds, if you think I'm lazy or parasitic then you one dumb bastard. Check the realm rankings. you don't have to go far to find me. the only reason I'm not doing this myself is that I happened to be in the wrong realm when Intelli restarted the server.

People generally just sit in the stalls, and either steal trades or stop others from using it.

Does not spawn building have this? Or do you wish for it to be more detailed?

Easier said than done to protect the portal nether side, in my opinion, there will be little motivation to keep it secured nether side, and the bragging rights for it will be close to nothing.

If it were to be added as a feature of Minerealm, in my opinion most likely be in the online map (hasn't that been done before? [And discontinued due to the lag it caused?]) Also I doubt that someone would want to curate the map for every realm, and probably would just do it for their own group.

I can see your points on the trade rooms and nether portal.

My idea for a school house goes well beyond the scope of the spawn signs. In spawn you're given the minimum needed to operate on the server. I was envisioning something more comprehensive that would tell players how to be successful on the server.

It seems to me that an online map would work nicely. Such a map should'nt cause lag unless it is implemented incorrectly. (the map only needs to be updated by the server each time a realm is bought or sold, and only that part of the map)

Thanks for the constructive input.

Meh, I'm an idealist - I see a way to improve life for the majority and feel compelled to try. Nine times out of ten I get shot down by basic human nature. I've kinda gotten used to it over the years.

The times it works are worth it though :)

So your idea of "trying to help people" is "asking other people to do inane work for you, then you reap the benefits like the parasitic twat that you are".
