I have died a few times in the last day or two from mobs.
When I get back to the location (almost immediately as its in my realms) some of my items have already de-spawned.
Is this a server issue as Burt tells me it's not normal for items to de-spawn that fast.

Which mob is killing you? Creepers destroy most of the items from a player upon kills, and some skeles and zombuls can pick up items and then despawn with them.

The first I have no clue as I was being hit from behind while AFK. (Zombie I think)
I was just outside so ran to try and get away but wasn't quick enough.

Second Burt was present and I was knocked down a hole by a skellie.
He picked up what he could but half my stuff was gone

Not the end of the world but I'm just wondering if de-spawn rates have changed recently.


Edit: First time i lost a silk pick and boots
Second time was about half my inventory, unb pick, silk book, stack of clay amongst other things

First off when your hit afk you still load chunks even if you died. This reduces the five minutes. Second I have had staff members pick up my items after I died before, and not realize it. A staff member may have been invisible with Burt. Im not sure though. Also did the realm have lots of item frames on it?

All I could get from the wiki was "Any items and/or blocks that were in the player's inventory are dropped from their head and scattered around the spot where the player died. If they come in contact with dangerous blocks - like lava, fire or cactus blocks - they will be destroyed. Otherwise, according to Notch, "they decay after five minutes, except if the chunk is unloaded, in which case they last forever"."

Items can fly pretty far given how fast you were falling. But if you were thorough in your search where you died, it may be the item limit per chunk doesn't count stacks of blocks upon death as a single block, but as many individual ones, then limits them by erasing random ones until the limit is reached and then kicking in the item stacking. But I have no way to prove that and it's just speculation.

I was out the back having a smoke (yeah I know, bad habit) and ran in as soon as I heard the hit noise on the first. Was still being hit when I got on the KB and died at the top of my /home stairs.
I can understand items de-spawning there as I have cows/sheep/spawner etc on the 4 realms there.

Not sure about the second as i fell and Burt grabbed my stuff before I got back.
I've had a good scout about the area but I'm busy grinding to replace my armour I lost the day before before I head back to finish the search.

Items fall through stairs sometimes :o

Break the stairs and they should be underneath.

Also, this used to be a huge glitch everyone faced a while back but I haven't seen this happen in 3-4 months, I thought they fixed it.

At the time I was helping Bu1ld0g I was the only staff member on at the time. Just clearing any possibilities.

Yeah like I said it's not the end of the world, items are replaceable after all.
Just a bit miffed it happened twice in 2 days
