Disclaimer: The following is a joke and a satire on the issue of people losing mobs. Please do not take offense.

People who have farms or grinders- "Oh no. Now I will have to work to obtain things! The horror! How is it ever fair to be punished for hoarding objects and slowing down the server?"

People who understand what the change's benefits are- "Great! A problem has been noticed and is being dealt with accordingly!"

I think at first, people calling it "abuse" is wrong. If you define a set of constraints then players, people not unlike myself, are going work towards testing those constraints. Accept that min-maxing is how most people play games. In fact if anything, you pretty much invited people to do this. I think the simple act of calling it "abuse" is alone just going to make people angry.

Thinking about it though, I've come around on the subject. I don't really use my farms _that much_ to miss having them. Well, except if I ever want to build a(nother) giant wool structure, then I might miss the sheep.

If it genuinely helps the server, then do what we have to do. I enjoy playing here, I have noticed the TPS drop, and throwing more money at it to buy a bigger server (if that would even help) doesn't make sense if we can just make a change like this to solve things.

My only request, can we get some specifics on the new rules? (preferably before you start despawning)

While cutting down mobs is all well and fine, but what about the realms of banned players that still have massive farms of animals still in them. I've spent some time exploring the server since coming back to it this past weekend and i have seen a few of these farms. wouldn't a server wide mob reset and the new system help even more, or maybe even just the reset and see how things work before implementing a mob change.

Resetting and using the same system would be pointless. It would take less than a week for people to gather the same amount of animals they had before.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the price of wool and leather.

Now, just a random thought here and I don't know if its possible ( I take c++ next semester followed by java xD) but, would it be possible to just limit passive animals to the new system of a certain number x by x. This would still allow people full use of grinders. Lets face it, this would severely limit the effect of triple or quad grinders. Since aggressive mobs de-spawn when players aren't near them, I wouldn't see this causing any lag issues and it would still solve the problem of people currently taking advantage of the 100 per realm. Would love to hear back on the possibilities.

Any new rules connected to the killing? As several player pointed out already, the killing doesnt make sen1se over the long run, people will just go to the limits again. And again. And again. If you want to maintain high TPS you need to kill all mobs again and again and again... and then the game is no fun anymore.

Intelli, could you please lay out what you have in mind? Its not 100% fair to leave us without your guidance.

P.S.: I will miss my animals... and I doubt that being far away from spawn animals affect TPS, but this is just the what someone thinks who has no idea about number...

I think you misunderstand what is happening. Intelli is not going to kill every mob on the map, and it is not going to be a one-time thing. He is tightening the mob limit per area to make it so people cannot have gigantic animal farms. They do send TPS into the tank; if you don't believe me, do /serverhealth when you are online. If the number of loaded animals is low (800-1600 or thereabouts), the TPS is usually good. A number of factors cause TPS to drop, but notice that if the loaded animal number is high (2500+), the TPS is typically bad.

And to Zulton and dilsif, I believe grinders will still work, but you won't be able to afk and let mobs build up anymore, if that's what you are accustomed to doing.
