I would hate to see the nether stripped of its resources, if that happens then it will just make glowstone and soul sand almost worthless...

Quite the opposite. The lack of either would drive up prices because people can't get it themselves. Soul Sand and Glowstone will become quite the commodities if they become unfindable.

Wow, I meant to say the nether being reset. Wow I cannot believe that I would get that mixed up, I was thinking one thing and typing something else.

Sorry for the break down there, and yes you are right. It is basic economic principal that a lack of supply drives up price.

Which is a good thing...for those who are selling the stuff. Consequently, the only people selling will be the ones with the diamonds in the first place, since the only way to get to the nether is through an obsidian gate. Only the people who already have nice things will profit off of this. The richer get richer, those who want to look rich get poorer.

Good people of Minerealm, cast off the shackles of the oppressive bourgeois! WORKERS OF THE REALMS, UNITE!

I know I'm blowing this out of proportion, but there are plenty of contested resources in the regular map. The danger of going to the Nether is enough of a payment to get the stuff. Just because the resources are there doesn't mean that they will become common.

What I am saying though is the nether won't be stripped of it's recources. It is so vast that it would take forever to make a dent unless some is working 24/7! So, really the nether won't be stripped of it's resources for a long time.

The nether is 8 times smaller than the normal world, and everyone will be far more motivated to mine it than the normal world..

I don't think you can come to conclusions so fast. If a single portal works for multiple people, which I'm sure it will, someone is bound to put one up near spawn. This would make anyone who can walk in get the materials. Of course, the Nether is dangerous, so anyone doing mass-collecting will need the diamonds to survive.
