If a map expansion is implemented, I think it should be done gradually as new features are added to minecraft. If the map was expanded to only 11,000 x 11,000 (i.e. adding only 500 blocks in each of the four directions) would give a 21% increase in the land area available to explore, as well as make an additional 8400 realms available for purchase.
Expanding the map to 14,150 x 14,150 (i.e. adding 2,075 blocks in each direction) would approximately double both the land area and the number of realms. Edit: Just realized I goofed on that last sentence. Each of the four directions would have to expand by a multiple of 50 in order to have all land be part of a realm. So this would be an expansion to 14,200 x 14,200 (adding 2,100 blocks in each direction), which would increase map area and realm count by 101.64%. In other news, having a [strike] command on the forums would be great.
By doing only a small expansion, there would still be the possibility of
another expansion at some point in the future, when additional features are released by Mojang.
