He's saying your sob story about losing all your items is bullshit because all the items are needed to be given back or face being banned. Thus in effect, you need to try harder to not be a complete moron.

how would you feel if you had (FOR EXAMPLE) 10 stacks of diamonds and a HUGE building made of iron and someone brought the realm overnight whilst you was sleeping? i dont mean to offend but sometimes the big dogs should show some heart and help the little people out...
I wouldn't be stupid enough to put 10 stacks of diamonds or a huge building made of iron on a realm I didn't purchase first.

I didn't always have a realm. I started out with an underground room and a mine at bedrock. I had a few chests for my cobblestone and all other materials I dug up... I had no telling sign on the surface that anything had been disturbed (made sure I entered in dirt, so i could replace it), when I logged out I took EVERYTHING with any value and put it on my person and put a sign that said:

"Casa de Valendr0s"
""
"Last here:"
"2011/06/25"

Right above my chests.

So just in case somebody came by, they knew whose chests they were and the date that I left the sign. If it was a few months later, they could collect my things without any ill will and be fine. All that was in them at night was cobble, dirt, gravel and sand anyway.

Bottom line, I didn't give a crap what happened to my area. I was fairly fond of it, sure, but if somebody had come by and bought it up under me, then so be it. I still had my credits, and some good amount of material.

After 5 or 6 days of that I had put enough time in to purchase my realm and I ventured out a bit further and became bolder.

I don't understand why this is such a difficult proposition.

if you had chests on the surface, or any evidence the surface had been disturbed at all, you're drawing attention to yourself.

It's not 10,000 credits in that realm, it's 10,000 from anywhere and 500 (1000 blocks placed = 500 credits) in that realm. Go mine in some random spot then find a good place to settle down later.

Interesting discussions. Let me clarify as Light and Kress both have already, that in both Philo's A and B, there is a 14 day exodus period that acts to protect the belongings and habitat of the bought out player, hopefully long enough for him to get the hell out of dodge himself.

Without providing a bias in either direction, I'd like to add just a few things:

(Note: these are not my direct arguments. They are a composition of thoughts I have heard in both public and private discussions with me, with just a taste of my thoughts mixed in. Please do not attempt to argue with me, as that's not what I'm doing in this thread.)

Philo A Flaws

In philosophy A, need I point out there will exist a great controversy over the Staff protecting certain realms. More often than not, we will likely step in to protect bought out properties, as in most cases, it usually ties in with some form of harassment. This leads to an enraged purchaser of the realm, a spoiled, protected unofficial owner of the realm, a huge flaw that essentially requires players to read the Staff's minds regarding which realms they well end up protecting (Or: Ask before you Act), and like I said in the OP, a big, fat, glaring irony. More importantly, it leads for major headaches forum side, which eventually leave the threads in a trail of ash that has questioned the moral fiber of the server, policy consistency, and other really obnoxious things to have discussed.

The idea of "survival of the fittest", as well as "if you can't put the work in, don't reap the benefits" are direct arguments against Philo A. The current environment allows for free-riders of the realm system, who are in effect protected by the concept of realms without actually buying one, which is both a glaring irony, and unfair to those who do buy in to the realm system. If you are too irresponsible, too lazy, or otherwise too incapable of purchasing a realm, then why would you put so much faith and effort in to that piece of property that you know very well could easily be snatched from you?

Philo B Flaws

In philosophy B, there lie separate problems. With a policy that allows for the purchasing of any realm, it is blind to the intent of such purchases, which very often is directly tied with harassment. The question is, then, why would we create a policy that allows for harassment in the form of purchasing realms with intent to harm another player, when we very strongly oppose and ban for the practice of harassment?

This philosophy does not provide any invitation to new players, other than those who travel incredibly far from spawn. More often than not, they do not comprehend the realm meta at early stages of gameplay, and so may find themselves completely screwed out of their own property. While you players who may be more experienced may argue, "Well, if they are too dumb to learn how it works, why should we protect them?" Hopefully you all have the humility to remember at one point in time, you were the one asking how the /sethome command works, how messaging works, how coordinates work, etc. Even if you learned these things very quickly, assume that every player that first steps foot here doesn't know it to begin with.

This policy isn't just a question of how to guarantee the property rights of players, it's how we will carry out moral policies as well. Will we allow for harassment in the form of sweeping the efforts of a player up from under him, ruining possibly weeks of work?

lightbulbs theres no need to call people names, i got past that stage at 5 or 6, so if we could all act like mature civil and decent human beings the problem can get resolved alot quicker without as much head-ripping as there may usually be,

and so; being the mature human beings we are im am going to shot myself in the foot and aadmit i misread proposition B and so i appoligise to You Kress91 and you LightBulbs for any inconvenience and distress cause, i still do think there should be better protection for the little guys and think its unfair if someone (the little guy) finds land and makes it just right for them or flattens it out etc, only to have the big guy take it from them, and so i also beleive an option *LIKE* :

the little guy finds the land first and places/mines over a certain amount of blocks on the realm and has been working on it over a certain period of time and a big guy comes along and decides to buy the realm the little guy should have a certain period of time to earn enough credits to buy the realm as they would have been working on it longer than the little guy,

*This is just an idea and it's my own opinion, we are all entitled to one* .

Realms are easy to purchase and there are many of them still scattered across the world. Building a large structure on a public realm is folly. The realm system exists for a reason.

I started off underground, mined for days, and then went and purchased the realm I wanted. Even then, I didn't start building anything until I had two more adjacent realms. It's common sense. I placed signs claiming whatever other realms I may like to have, but I don't assume anyone will pay attention to those signs.

A requires more work for mods/admins. They're already hounded by idiots constantly, hour after hour. I also believe A will protect stupid people. Most of the players on Minerealm honestly don't care about that particular group of people.

If a player doesn't have the common sense to read and learn about the server and to understand that he probably shouldn't build much before purchasing a realm, I'd rather not see them protected. These are usually the same players that are at spawn, complaining about the lack of public land. The entire world arguably functions like B does anyway, don't protect naive children.

/2cents

(On a side note, most of the players that support A probably don't even have a forum account, so this whole point is moot and B wins, in my opinion.)

So, there's no need to call people names, but me calling you a moron is what caused you to read the rules over and become ever so slightly less stupid.

even if that is the case, calling people names isn't the answer, its merely a low form of bullying and people who 'bully' other people behind the safety of their TFT need to realize they shouldn't as if if you was standing in front of me face to face and saaid that i think there would be a different outcome rather than me sitting here and listening to you call me names...

now we all have the right to share our opinions on things and eachother but calling people names is very low and i hope one day you can 'Grow' out of this as i think you would make a much better human being if you did.

also may i ask why exactly did you quit the mine realm server?
