Not for months yet. They are just in the first couple snapshots and there are many more to come. Not to mention the time it will take once the official update does come out, for bukkit to update.

I would therefore hope we arent waiting till then, but if so I think I speak for everyone that I'd really like to know if we are waiting for a bit longer. I cant put anything valuable down in a marked realm cause I dont know if it will be deleted the next day by the wipe. I have no qualms with waiting longer but if we are going to be waiting for another couple months it would be nice to know.

The teleporter is blocked since yesterday, if thats a hint or just a genius trolling action - i dont know ;)

IIRC Intelli mentioned a while back that the wipe was going to be done as soon as the code is ready. I would imagine that predicting when a coding project will be complete (not just written, but thoroughly tested and debugged) would be rather challenging to say the least.

The fact that we have maps of which realms are currently slated to wipe would seem to suggest that the part of the code responsible for picking realms to wipe is now up and running. But there's still the issue of how to actually make the wipe happen.

Some realms will use the same code (or at least substantially similar code) as the last public realm wipe - just eliminate all current blocks, and substitute in all new blocks. But the merging with existing terrain seems like it could be horribly tricky. If there's a huge difference in height between a saved realm and a new realm (e.g. a new extreme hill biome is generated next to a flattened current realm, or a tower/wall to sky limit is at the border of a realm) how does that issue get resolved? If there's variation in terrain height along the border of a realm, which height will it merge to and how will it pick that height? How does merging at a corner differ from merging at an edge? If you think you've got a solution to any/all of the above questions, what tests are needed to prove that the solution does in fact work?

tl;dr Code takes time, and often more time than you'd like. The realm map shows that a good chunk of it is done, but the rest of it is probably tougher.
