The problem with the nether is that blocks in the nether are 8x larger yet everything else is the same. This causes large problems due to being able to travel faster in the nether than in the surface world.

The Nether is almost always on a separate map, even in SSP. It would be impossible for realms to expand into it, though it's up to Intelli whether or not we can establish realms in it...

Actually the possibilty of Nether Biomes has previously been discussed and are quite possible even though exceptionally rare.

Perhaps, the current server would need to be split in 2, 1 portion supporting the surface world and the other supporting the nether. It would be just like intelli adding another 4000 blocks into the world area.

The nether would be cool, but realms shouldn't expand into it. If someone makes a realm in the nether, they should be recognized for the badassery that is their realm as well as having a hard time with it. But honestly i feel like the nether would be pointless as we would stripmine it of all glowstone and soul sand in 24 hours.

I'm pretty excited about the Nether. I like the idea of raiding parties going to the Underworld for looting and GLORY.

About the resource stripping, maybe the nether map can be reset often? That way the resources would never be permanently gone; however, building any outposts in the nether would be pointless. As long as the world files are different, the nether map could be reset without damaging the regular map. There's no telling where your portal may end up, after a reset, though...

I also agree about the no realms in the nether thing.

I don't see what the problem is with the mining. The nether would be an entirely new map. Have we stripped down survival or creative yet? No. So I doubt it would be a problem.
