Orb of glass filled with lava.

This seems like it is done a lot.

I would say build a really nice looking observation deck, and somehow utilize the things on the side in the design. Of course, that would require some way to get the top, so I'm not sure how do-able that is in your design.

Glass lava orb is done less than observation decks.

I buy that. But a glass lava orb is a glass lava orb (What I mean to say is, they look the same). You can design an observation deck to look like anything that you want. I suppose both would look good though.
