The prerelease is already out, meaning 1.9 is most likely to happen Monday-Thursday next week.

I don't see why so many people are convinced that because there's a prerelease out it means the real thing is coming out within a few days. To my understanding, they simply liked all the bug feedback they were getting from the 1.8 prerelease and decided it would be a good idea to get a 1.9 one out as early as possible. On top of that, the 1.9 prerelease doesn't even have half the features scheduled to be in the actual 1.9. Why would they release 1.9 so much earlier than originally intended if it's not even close to what they originally intended to release?

I am hoping that 1.9 will be a ways away. Having all those people join this server due to the other servers updating to the update of 1.8 was hard. It will be likely to happen again for 1.9 and I am not prepared for this to happen and I believe I am speaking for some of my friends as well. On the other hand, 1.9 will be fun due to the new blocks and biomes being added Oh and mobs!

I believe 1.9 is scheduled for mid-October. If you'll only be gone for a week you should be fine.

I heard it was around a week after 1.8 got out.

Notch said when the pre-release was released that the full 1.9 would come after feedback and that they are splitting the update up and there will be a 1.10 with more adventure update content.
