A website overload is my guess, from what the error says.

Highly doubt it's in preperation for 1.8.

I'm getting the same error message trying to get onto the survival server as johnnklein as of 3:10 est.

I currently cannot connect to the survival server, have yet to try the creative, but I'm assuming that's most likely down too. Anybody else not able to connect right now?

Please keep server reports to this thread.

And seeing as I'm having trouble connecting to Minecraft in general, it's probably an issue that Notch'll need to deal with.
