I don't think it's going off topic at all--the whole point of the subway is to make it easier to get to distant parts of the server, where you can see things that you haven't visited before.

When you do that, I recommend getting out of the subway at some of the stations, and taking a look at some of the structures in the area. It'll make your trip take longer, of course, but I find that it's fascinating to check out buildings other players have made that I had never even seen before.

Totally ;D I look at the webmap for the server on a weekly if not daily basis and there are a lot of cool stuff on the surface that i've been intending to visit ... it's easy to feel that my little corner of the world is all there is, but i know that people have made some very interesting things on the server, and everyone should take the time to visit some of it!

You could see how interesting pieville is! You could get lost 50 times in such an "interesting" wasteland.

Not to make this harder, but for the map to be really accurate, wouldn't you need to know the location of every corner or turn in the subway as well?

Super simplified reasoning:
You start at (01,01) and end at (03,03). We know that there is no way to place diagonal rails, but we don't know how we got from point A to point B. (And it is relevant when people add new lines.

I'm not sure what was discussed on the other threads about this, but for this style of map you wouldn't need it to be that level of accurate. The only information you really need is what stop is next, how far away your stop is, and maybe how long it will take to get there. The coordinates would be a bonus.

It's effective because it's simple. You can look at it and get exactly the information you need.

If you wanted a more detailed map, that would be a different style altogether. I agree that a more detailed map is necessary for civil / railway planning etc, but this method (from the first post) wouldn't be the way to do it.

Just a small update, I've done some mapping of the west stations and the east and south stations. It's not very complete, but I just wanted to have something to work with so I can get a map up and visible (hopefully sometime tonight).

Andy if you want to contribute your mapping details of the northern lines, that would be awesome, send me a forum pm.

Also, I don't want to do anyone injustice as the railway is a pretty effective means of travel and a lot of the stops I got to were very nice and some were quite elaborate. I did run into some problems though with missing rails, missing powered rails, and other fairly deliberate problems like railway stops that weren't designed too well, and one railway stop where my cart failed to stop at altogether (i walked back).

So I would just like to know who I can talk to to get some of those fixed. And help me be less confused about some of the bigger stations

With regard to the missing rails, that would be the result of griefing. If you find any such places in the future, contact an admin while still there; they can teleport to you and (if the griefing was recent) check to see who was responsible.

If the griefing is too old to be rolled back, or if its not griefing but some other sort of trouble (like where you didn't stop at a junction), I think KingSpartacus takes care of those kinds of issues.

I'm currently mapping the west line past nordica. I have all the turns down til Vatties realm at -2025 75.
