Yep title says it all, the mob spawn thing is too much. I lost my whole almost twice in the space of half an hour, due to creepers blowing up with the area lit up almost everywhere. So yeah please change it back or lower the rate, thinking about it I might take a break from minerealm...

The biggest problem for me isn't the mobs but the despawning of the items that is really random, lost alot of good stuff due to glitchie system atm ...

EDIT: THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BUILD!

Allthough I like some challenge, I have to agree that the current spawn rate is a little to much.
even in lit up area's mobs are spawning like crazy.

I think the spawn rate should be toned down a little bit.

This is, I think, my 5th post addressing this. Spending hours every day on Minerealm playing and building it is a huge dissapointment that no announcement or information has come from Intelli about the new mob situation. All my attempts, and those of others, at getting a response have been ignored completly.

This is my last try.

I will quote, my already posted, concerns here:
XsyntaXerrorX wrote:So quite a few of us have noticed that a larger than normal amount of hostile mobs are roaming the realms today. Especially creepers seem to spawn in much larger numbers and even hang out in creepy creeper groups...

My questions to the Admin and Mods are simple: What happened and why? And is this the new status quo of things??
I am worried since my sheep farm has sheep despawning at an alarming rate because of the extra mobs wandering around...

Prodigy9 wrote:In another thread, Pandemic said that it was 50 mobs in 100 blocks as a maximum, but I haven't seen any confirmation from staff. At one point, I had 18 mobs in a drop zone from a grinder, but now I'm only getting up to 6.

I wonder if Intelli is just trying out different options to see what mob-limit variations have on lag. Hopefully we end up with a permanent increase at some point.
So the way I see it, there are now 2 new mob changes:

1. Max 50 mobs within 100 squares of players.
2. Increased mob spawn rate

these 2 changes then exists simultaneously with the "mob-limiter"plug-in that was implemented last year.

This has huge ramifications on Sheep farming:

The mob-limiter forced us to keep groups of five seperated from other groups in order to avoid them despawning each other. NOW they will despawn anyway REGARDLESS not only because of the limit of 50 within 100 blocks, but ALSO because of the increased amount of hostile mobs that will roam the farm and thereby cause despawning...

So yeah Sheep Farms are now officially dead on minerealm.

I hate it!
If no reply comes out of this thread I think I might take a break from minerealm.

I have yet to get on the server and see what's up. But if this is true, I take this as a challenge.

Silver, I can provide you with a nice bow and a knock back sword if you need, that should help. Don't leave!

So, this is what I got from in game convo with, Intelli.

He's made it so less mobs spawn, which reduces lag, and results in more mobs overall.
He has decreased the attempted mob spawn rate from 20/second default to 1/second. The mob limit is currently 5 mobs in a 6x6x6 area.
Also, he's made it so mobs farther away from a player don't spawn, but this does not cause more mobs to spawn closer to a player.
Also, use torches where you don't want hostile mobs to spawn. (Ya I know, may seem elementary, but as I was cranky and not thinking straight, this advice was helpful.)

So, citizens of MineRealm...it's up to us to light up the world (as least where we want to easily build) So let's all join in a rousing chorus of "You Light Up My Life" and get to it.

ps: I also learned about the E value of F3 today. If what I read is true E= # of entities (dropped items+mobs) on screen (if you could see through blocks) / total # of entities in loaded chunks

if anyone has any insight into the validity of above, I'd love to read it

It's true that you get spoiled easily on multiplayer. you forget how hard singleplayer is when it comes to mob spawn rates. I guess we will have to get used to placing torches more often.

I've noticed the mobs only drop one xp orb. Does this count as the normal amount of xp? Or does it only count as one orb worth of xp?

I believe this is a result of moving to CraftBukkit++. There is an option that automatically merges identical drops into one while preserving their total value that I think Intelli has enabled. A lag reduction optimization.
