I'm confused. I originally thought no mods were allowed at all. Then, a while ago, I saw a minimap in use in screenshots in http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... 6&start=40 and raised an eyebrow, but nobody seemed to mind, and then later I saw http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3416 suggest that they are allowed, so I started looking into minimaps until I got distracted and never picked one. Now I see in this thread that minimap mods are probably not allowed after all.

Could we get a staff post on how to determine whether a mod is allowed? A list of allowed mods would be handy but I can see why that would never happen. If no mods are allowed at all, of any kind, no judgment required, it would be great to get confirmation on that as well.

Technically it's supposed to be no mods at all (Except for Sharcraft Legal Version I believe).

However, in the past, mods have turned a blind eye to use of the minimap mod.
Not sure why they would get mad over Optimine and not the minimap mod.

Safest to just use a vanilla client, or Sharcraft.

Minimap gives a huge advantage, as when someone is following you, you can see it, when someone is hiding and waiting for you. U can track someone easily when 1 person is running and you go after the person. I tryed it once and liked it, but more as a point of a good mod for Single Player.

Resources are being displayed and so on...

I think it should just be forbidden. It's a cheap. You can get things quite a lot easier.... Other mods are not allowed simply because you get whining about things like: "No, this is not a minimap!!! It just locks on the person and says how far these people are and which way!!!!"

Or a whole discussion if someone uses it or not. We as regular players, who use Optifine and Improved Chat are getting put down by people who miss-use mods. It's that lame....

From what I can understand, mods are allowed as long as they don't allow you to break in game physics, (i.e. flying, speed-hacks, x-ray), or allow you to spawn items.
If it lets you spawn items, fly, break blocks faster than normal, see through blocks, go faster than normal, or make you hidden or less detectable to other players in SMP it's not allowed. Anything else is allowed, even mods like single player commands, witch allows you to do these things only in single player.

Thanks for posting this. It demonstrates that there is general lack of understanding on what "no mods allowed" means. I believe your understanding allows minimap mods. However, there was a recent staff post saying that minimap mods are not (or no longer?) allowed:

Intelli recently said on the server that there are no minimap mods aloud. I see a compass thing on the top right portion of your screen.

Not sure what this means, but just something to point out.

Thanks for pointing it out ramien, but _b3ast_ intelli did state minimap's aren't allowed, espeically the one you are using, which I see you have the rest of the mods installed most likely too. I'm sure you catch my drift when I say that and you need to remove them immediately.

I would really appreciate it if Intelli or his delegate would post a clarification on this. Does no mods allowed mean no mods allowed, or does it mean some mods allowed?

Basically, if you get caught with a mod, you are in trouble. Things like chat mods are allowed but strongly discouraged. Anything that gives you any sort of advantage, like a minimap mod, is most definitely out.

If you post a video of yourself playing and the mod is noticeable by anyone else, then its probably not allowed.
