It has been stated (by Ael I think) that at some point, Staff will just say "Okay, he's not coming back, it's yours." But that determination must be made by a staff member, not by the player who purchased the realm.
And my interpretation is that if it's been a month and a half and staff tells somebody that the realms/items are theirs because the person probably isn't coming back, they won't reverse that decision if the person does return a long time later.
So to answer your question, if your realms disband and get bought up, and you return a month and a half later, don't count on getting anything back. Staff would likely side with the new owner, assuming (And this is a big if) he followed the correct procedure and asked them before doing anything.
It's not that hard to log in once a month to preserve your realms if you're taking an extended break. And it will avoid potential conflict upon your return. So if you want to take a long break, just log once in awhile to keep your realms from disbanding.

Even if two weeks has passed, you MUST ask Staff before doing anything with the land, or else risk a ban.
Also worth mentioning, last I checked, realms can't be purchased just so they can be dismantled after two weeks for the credit value.

It isn't a blanket rule that applies to each and every situation, which is why it is necessary to ask staff before changing a realm.
