All private realms will be copied and pasted into the new world. So yes it may be surrounded by water, mountains or a large drop if you're up high.

Anyways, for the new seed, whatever happens happens. Some will be happy where they live and some wont. I still think 1.9 is going to be something fun and different and to me, change is good. Adapting to different climates and different changes is fun.
