Option B sounds good to me, it'll allow you to keep working on your current builds, or transfer them across to the new map if you wished to do so by re-building them exactly, and it'll allow all the new features to be implemented without the hassle of transferring bought realms across like the last time! :)

Primo: thank you Intelli for your efforts to revitalize MineRealm! I was worried you had gotten bored with the server but you proved me wrong.

Secundo:
Also, Sir_Dave is unable to reply as he is drowning in his own tears after hearing there is a chance of the cathedral being wiped.
I can talk for myself, thanks

Although losing my cathedral would hurt me, I would not mourn it for too long. I like building as much as I like finished results. In the event of a full server wipe I would surely rebuild it sometime and would try to involve the community more in building it. Few people have more to lose from a full wipe than I do, yet I will accept it if this brings us the needed renewal.

Tertio: To all the people that say they will quit MR if the server wipes. If you quit the server you will lose all you had regardless. Not just your builds and credits, but your acquaintances in the community as well. Stay with us and help us bring about a new MR. Buildings can be replaced but replacing a community if much harder.

I understand people are attached to their builds they spent time and effort on. Therefore I voted option B. This way the server can be renewed whilst keeping the old map online for people that can't separate from their old works.

Quarto: A suggestion for making the community more tightly knit. At the moment there is little need for players to stick together. The reason? It's too safe out there. Mobs are few and do little harm. More importantly, there's little threat from other players. If pvp were to return to the whole map save in realms and around spawn there would be far more reason for players to combine their efforts. This could also lead to new building projects, for what is better to keep baddies out than a mighty complex of city walls?

I know there are people that are not fond of pvp at all. For these folks I recommend taking the following measures:

- making the new map larger so that non pvp-ers and recluses can abstain from combat if they so desire. setting the world border somewhere between 7.5k and 10k would go far in this case.
- Voting option B. Keeping the old map up as a build only world while making the new one more
dangerous.
- The creation of safe areas by the players themselves. I, for example, would offer the protection of the walls around my cathedral to anyone who wishes to live safely.

Quite a wall of text, but please read it all.

For one, i'd really like a new map to go with a new system, but i'd love to see all the other stuff implemented. I have plans for other cities and a fresh start would be nice

However, massive, ongoing projects would be ruined by a wipe, a few months loss for us at Sub Aurora.
I am a lot like Mitch on this.
I wouldn't mind seeing a new map, I mean, I feel as though it's time for a fresh start. But on the other hand, I really don't want to see so much hard work that has been put into the server just be wiped away.

So after some debate, I decided to go with option A. The main reason for this is the massive projects that people have been working on. I couldn't bare the thought of an un-finished project such as Sub Aurora just being wiped when people have spent so many months of hard work on it.

To save me writing this out - this is regarding mandatory PvP in public realms. Please reply with any queries if something is unclear.

Look at it this way.

With option B, we do not lose the map. If you absolutely hate the new map and new system and new everything, spend your time playing on the classic server. Voice your opinion by where you play. If everybody who hates the new map does that, it's likely that there'll be enough support to keep the classic server going, if not reinstate it as the main map.

But give the new system a chance. Intelli hasn't told us exactly what it's going to entail, but I'm very interested in this new system as I'm sure many of you are. And I would hate to see the many hours of development that went into such a huge update be wasted on a map that limits their capability.

Take option B and give the new system a chance before you judge it.

As for the reset, look at it as an opportunity to have a fresh start. Ever wanted a spawn realm but couldn't afford one? Now's your chance to get some prime real estate. Wanted to live in a jungle biome? Can't do that on 4.0. Annoyed by the abandoned buildings on expensive property in spawn city? Or do you wish you could open a store to compete with the DE, but don't have the location they do? Well now's your chance to change that.

It seems like alot now, but I spent a year as an admin on another big server where we did resets much more frequently than here. When everybody just gets to building, things actually get done very quickly. This is your chance to make Minerealm better than it already is.

Very well said, Jack.

this we can keep the old map just in case people would really hate the new system.

Also Intelli. You hinted the realms system might change. could you tell us what the alternative system would look like? Thanks in advance.

I'm very happy with what I achieved in MineRealm so far and therefore would love to keep my realms and buildings. Whether its option A or B, they are both fine with me.
If the map was wiped though, I still think this is the best server there is and I'd just have to start from scraps. Least favorite scenario, but I'll still stay with MineRealm in any case.

Which direction we should go is entirely dependent on what 5.0.0 will actually bring that 4.3.0 does not already have.

As for a complete wipe, newer people will be more willing to change because they have less to lose as they have invested less time into their constructions. Older people will be less willing to because they have so much work and resources to lose.

If the server is rolled off as "classic", it will only be populated by the die-hards and will eventually become a ghost town just like creative.

If the server is reset or relegated to a seldom-visited wasteland, what would motivate people to stay when so many are already leaving due to game fatigue for having played for so long? Maybe allow people to keep 10% of their credits and a single chest or their player inventory?

Personally, if I had a wish list for the 5.0.0 server these are the things I would like to see:
1. An infinite map, either new, or by dropping the borders of the current map.
1a. If a new map, allow players to bring over some resources or credits
2. Make realms smaller, 25*25 or maybe even just chunk-sized at 16*16.
3. To alleviate realm congestion near spawns or towns, make realms start at 5000rc and then 2500rc more for each additional adjacent owned realm for a maximum of 25000rc. Or maybe an ever-escalating purchase cost for additional realms. Like 10000 for your first realm, then 20k for the next, then 30k for the next, etc.
4. In order to purchase a realm; you must be within 500 blocks of a spawn; within 100 blocks of another purchased realm; or at least 2500 blocks from the nearest spawn. That way people are encouraged to build cities or explore outward while still allowing hermits to be hermits.
5. The ability to petition new spawn points if they are greater than 2500 blocks from all other spawns or have spawns predefined in some kind of pattern.
6. The ability to teleport to different spawns/cities since they would be distant from each other and building another subway system will just end up being a waste of time.

Option B.

The current system works well. If we're to assume the new system is completely unlike it in every way, we can generally assume that it's not going to let players build in peace without getting griefed/looted/killed constantly.

Most players like this server because it allows them and their stuff to be protected, rather than throwing them at the mercy of every griefer nub who shows up just to attack. Loads of other servers have 'hardcore' systems, and they're much less enjoyable than this one.

However, a small number of players do want a much different, more 'hardcore' system. And they're going to keep wanting it until they get it.

Option B makes both sides happy. People who like this system can play on the classic server and people who want the new way can play on the new one. Nobody has to lose their past year of work or play on a server they think is stale if they don't want to.

Yes. I would like to see what we are getting here. But on the other hand, I trust Intelli to give us something that we enjoy playing on. He knows what players will like and dislike.
bcbarton wrote:If the server is rolled off as "classic", it will only be populated by the die-hards and will eventually become a ghost town just like creative.
Not necessarily. If it becomes a ghost town, the implication would be that everybody is playing on game.minerealm.com, which would mean that the new server is a success. If everybody hates the new system and plays on classic instead (and I doubt people will hate it, but still...) I'm sure it would be possible to get the old map reinstated.
bcbarton wrote: Maybe allow people to keep 10% of their credits and a single chest or their player inventory?
While this sounds nice, the logistics of it are nearly impossible to manage...how would they get your chest without missing certain peoples'? Put them in an ark? I can already see the looting claims...

These parameters are based on the current system. As Intelli said, you shouldn't assume that realms or credits will be set up the exact way they are now. Before creating conditions like this, we need to know what the new server entails.
