X-ray is definitely an exploit.

Exploit - to use selfishly for one's own ends.

Avoid using it as it is not allowed.


Mods used transparent textures to check hidden chest for duped items... but that bug was fixed and I doubt they still use it.

If thats the definition we are using then i can use the X-ray pack all i want, i just have to donate a chunk to a community of the stuff i find. Then its no longer selfish. I don't think Exploit is what it would fall under.

Also, exploits in games are typically considered to be errors or glitches that are already part of a game and used by a player in a way that defeats the point or purpose of the game. As the Xray pack is not originally part of the game but a later addition it can't fall under that and the fact that minecraft does not actually have an explicit purpose or goal also rules out exploit as something an xray pack could fall under.


The only thing it could possibly fall under is hack. A hack would be an unapproved external modification to a game that unfairly allows it to perform a function that gives you an advantage. This fails on the unfair part as all players are capable of using an Xray pack. This also rules out cheating as to be a cheat it would have to be unfair.

For the unapproved part it depends on how you would seek approval from. Notch is scattered on the subject of SMP mods and intelli has not specifically said anything regarding the use of xray mods or transparent textures packs for non-greifing purposes.

Honestly, i think the no-hacking part of the rules could use a bit more clarification, if in fact xray packs are not allowed.

He wasn't going to get banned anyway since no mods have commented on it. If they haven't hopped in to declare him banned yet it probably means a single pic of ambiguous text is not enough to get someone banned.

And when you say that agree with me that he shouldn't be banned, you are not actually agreeing with me. My argument is not that he shouldn't be banned but that the whole topic of xray mods and transparent texture packs needs to be addressed by an admin and while your one line agreement is certainly appreciated, I expect my arguments to stand on their own logic, not on popular support.

It didn't fail... it opened a forum of discussion about the morales of an xray mod, and how people felt about the points of them, good and bad. It explained the rules, had an opinion on a moderator, and the inhabitants of a server, and was not in any way ever trampled on the feelings of anyone. It's calm, rational discussions in a forum that is the very reason why they exist.

p.s. I sometimes think they are fine, if they aren't abused. finding that line would be useful, I would think.

Doesn't matter anymore thier mods locked it seems they don't like peoples opinion's when they ask for it lol
