Trying to walk the line between interest in your kid's activities and helicoptering is not easy. I happen to like MineCraft so this part is not too hard. I've chosen to leave Max's computer unrestricted - he can watch anything on the web. He watches the Paul Sores videos and I like that Paul is clean. Sky is a completely different matter. I let him watch Sky as long as I don't hear any foul words. The minute Max brings foul language out into the real world, he knows he is done.
Both kids (Max and Alex) have their own servers but they get bored of playing in their own worlds. We tried running a diamond challenge and a few other games in MineCraft but, again, they get bored. There is nothing boring about MineRealm.
Alex and I made our way from Spawn to (-3992, 1992) - what a trip! We made it about half way with the subway then found a cavern to climb but still had to dig up which is scary even on a diagonal. The other half of the trip was above ground. The subway is intense. The structures above ground are intense. It's hard to imagine that it was all done in survival mode with no inventory mods.
Anyway, looking forward to the possibility that Max gets back on. He was odd man out tonight with the playdate and really regrets his greifing. Honestly, this may be the hardest lesson he has ever learned. As a single child with a learning disability, he gets a lot of attention, a lot of forgiveness and understanding and he wants for very little. I really hope he learns from it - I think he will.
Anyway - thanks for all your help and guidance.
Happy Mining,
Dave
