Nah by that time nuclear fusion will be commercialised (I really hope so) and that will have triggered an energy revolution of sorts. Efficiency higher than anything else, easy fuel to obtain, helium/other light elements as byproducts, it will revolutionise our dependence on energy. Although it would probably be very expensive, so who knows how that would turn out exactly.

Point is it's very stupid to start a war over something that (a) contributes greatly to climate change, (b) we are slowly relying less on and (c) would quite possibly consume more of the resource than the amount we're fighting over in the first place.

Both points taken. What I meant was that if there was a shortage of energy, the countries who use the most would probably start sizing it by force.
