Hey. Not really feeling well mentally. The mobile home I lived in suffered server smoke damage from an electric fire in the closet of the master bedroom. Lucky the house didn't go up in flames. But My room thankfully the door was closed and on the other end of the house. Suffered the least of the smoke damage. was wondering how you can get rid of the smell of smoke?

Man I hate how that happend. Also try a vacuum. Like a huge one. Call a fumigation guy possibly. He/she will get the job done the fastest.

We had a fire at our house a few years back from our wood burner. Luckily nothing major caught fire and we were home but there was a lot of water damage from the fire dept puting it out; making sure everything was out and there was a lot of smoke damage. We had to get all new furniture, carpeting, and redo alot of stuff. Even after several years you can still sort of smell the smoke in the basement.

Two things:

1) Clean everything, including wall surfaces and the ceiling, thoroughly with sugar soap and water. This might be enough on its own.

2) See if you can find a local service provider (possibly a carpet cleaning company or similar) that offers an ozonation service. Basically they would close up your home, put a machine in there that converts oxygen in the air into ozone and let it run for a period of time - possibly a day or two.

The way in which ozonation works is that ozone (O3) is a relatively unstable molecule. It readily degrades into O2 plus an O radical. This O radical bonds with the molecules that cause the soot odour via a process called oxidation, and in doing so completely removes its smell.

The only issues with ozonation are that (1) it turns oxygen in the air into ozone, so if you go into the home while it's running you could end up dead; and (2) the oxidation process can ruin rubber seals (fridges, windows and the like). Once the machine has been turned off and the home thoroughly vented, you will notice a slight sharpness in the air for a few days, but after that it will be completely clear of any smell.

I thanks fer your concerns and worries, but I think i will use this for future reference. AT 1:30 last night while I was staying at my aunts. A fire in the mobile home (my old house across teh 100yard hay field.) rekindled and burnt it down. Luckily I got what I could after the first fire, so I am not entirely s.o.l
