As per the title, I want to see the very best in automation in Minecraft. Whether it be a farm, a mass-smelting machine, houses that build themselves, or bridges which repair themselves (I myself have made one before).

I'm looking for inspiration to bring the spark back into my Minecraft experience. With the release of hoppers in 1.5, a lot more automation is possible compared to when I was more active and I'd like to see the very best of it.

Not built by me, but this is a "3D redstone printer." It uses piston loop memory and an amazing "piston folder" mechanism to move 5 different types of blocks around into any complicated 11x11x11 structure. It's slow and has no practical application, but it's a good example of what can be done with pistons and redstone.

I don't even know what the 'iron trench' is. I assume it's some kind of iron farm or something?

Iron trench is just the name of the design of an iron farm that contains 32 villages inside of it, producing 32x the amount of iron golems. Normally, when the chunks that contain this setup are unloaded, this would cause the villages to merge. However, a famous(ish) youtuber named Tango Tek (who also developed the system to overlap villages) created a device that automatically rebuilds the farm when the chunks are unloaded and then reloaded .

Also known as the key behind the mass inflation in our market of iron because of the few modifications Fl4shkiller, G_Tus, and BSG put into while making the trench.
