Urgent Note: Before playing the second video turn your volume down.

I am planning an automated sorting/storage system and have been playing around with hoppers, comparators etc. in single player while I have been designing it.

So my question is, is this allowed in MR? You will need to skip to approximately 13:00 into the video for the vertical transportation, which is the bit my question is about.

If I were to make a clock like this instead of like the one in the video above, would that be acceptable. Skip to about 1:43 in this video.

Any redstone in a loop is not allowed as far as I know, even if it has an on/off switch.

If you link a series of 1-bit adders with like a 5-20 tick delay you could have a very long clock. I thought about doing this with an auto farm but there is not way to plant seeds. Each bit would increase by (adder or bit)^2. If my calculations are right a 60 bit adder (which would be huge) would take an hour to complete. Thats if 1 second = 20 ticks (the wiki says 10 ticks per second though). I hope this helps.

The basic idea: We don't want redstone to cause server lag.

A solution is to make it only pulse if there is items to transport.
- To detect if there is items to transport you can use a comparator to make an output if there is items in the start chest.
(Need the nether quartz first)

Another solution could be to use mobs and pressure plates.

You can also hire a player as "button pusher" for a small hourly fee.

I'd imagine there wouldn't be much of a problem with a togglable clock as long as you used a pressure plate or tripwire hook to keep it on, although I'm not sure if there are any actual concrete rules about this. Either way, here's a comparator-based version I built that will run for a few seconds after the bottom dropper receives an item:

Ignore the lever and hoppers; they were just used to feed the items back into the bottom for testing.
