But no one ever contacted me for my present. If it was a one-for-one thing, then you'll know who to look for with which to trade presents. So if I get Jeniansmom, she gets me, I know that I need to rendezvous with just Jeniansmom, instead of seeking out the person I am giving to AND waiting for the person who has my name as well.
Maybe you are missing the point of a secret Santa. Your recipient should not know who they got it from. There should be a intermediary (with that in mind if you need one, I can pass on you gift for you, I am sure VVolfie would do so too).
I am pretty confident I understand the Secret Santa concept, but I just thought that my version might make it easier. I do like the idea of not knowing who has my name, but eventually I will know who they are when they contact. It should be fun, but also fair, since VVolfie is going to the trouble to host this for us again and she probably doesn't have the time to catalog and pass on ALL of the presents just so we don't know who they are from.

What if Nooby McGriefsalot is given some epic pvp gear by Chammiefication, but then Nooby doesn't care to give Gallinka anything? Gallinka waits until after New Years, doesn't have any PM's from their Secret Santa, he doesn't want to pester VVolfie to have her contact his mysterious gift giver, he feels left out of the fun, and so on.

Is that just part of the surprise?

You just gotta trust people, Falconis. That's what this is about.

@Roo Although that's a great idea it makes the whole event a lot less personal in my mind. Instead of interacting personally with their secret santa, people would instead just be waiting at spawn to get the items out of whatever chest has their name on it. And it makes an already slightly complicated thing extremely complicated. Also chests can't be placed within 100 blocks of spawn silly, and placing them at spawn is disabled entirely. :P The event is made around the idea that people would be interacting more with each other, and although that seems like a fun event, the whole meaning behind the event is basically lost by putting a chest with people's name/names on it.

@Falconis The extended date for contacting me is only to ensure that the people have enough time to contact their secret Santa after the "event days". The event days are only in place in hopes that people will do their best to give their present on that date(s), and the date/dates is/are later because I know there's a large amount of people who won't be playing on Christmas. :P If you haven't received your present on one of those two days don't be upset, some of the presents were late last year due to things completely unrelated to minecraft. Some people are out on holiday, some people work extended hours, some are nubs without the knowledge of how to PM on the forums. Whatever the reason may be I want to make sure that this event doesn't end up putting stress on anyone... but myself. Hehehe

As for the event style, giving to (and receiving from) different people was kind of my point. As I stated before the event is an attempt to try and get multiple people to interact with each other. For the most part last year that was very successful so we're doing it again this year in the same way.

A note to everyone participating, I know that we're not always going to receive the same quality of gift we give. People participating in the event vary in terms of wealth. Whether it was something cheap but meaningful like a written book, or an expensive gift, almost everyone last year did their best to make sure their secret Santa got a nice gift. (I got a piece of pork and gave away a stack of diamond blocks and you don't see me complaining. >.>) So I encourage people to treat everyone else in the event the same way you'd like to be treated. That means.. no gifting coal.. no gifting flint. (Unless they're into that kind of stuff lol) Be kind, and expect to be treated in the same way. :P

If you do get an intentionally crappy gift, I'll be sure to put the person on the naughty list for next years event, so they won't be allowed to participate unless I see a drastic change in attitude. (assuming we have one) I'll also give you a gift myself to make up for your secret santa's lack of holiday cheer.

Thank you to everyone who's signed up so far! :3 We have a lot of people this year and we're very close to exceeding last years numbers. I'll keep trying to answer everyone's questions in this thread and my PM's. :) There's a little over a week left to sign up, and I hope everyone's as excited as I am!
