It's the fact that we have strict rules in place in order to protect the players/their builds that makes us such an unlikable server. Not the absolutely downright arrogant, insensitive, selfish, childish, players we have.
Not. One. Bit. c:

Ah, thanks for typing up a perfect example of another problem I (and likely many others) have with this server.

Some people have been banned 1-2 years maybe give them a new shot?
Me and The boys would love to play again but I guess that can't happen.

The reason there has become a massive drop in players is due to the enormous banlist this server has. Maybe being a little too strict at times but when necessary nobody can complain.

Sadly, now there are no true battles anymore, besides the occasional nether camping, and factions merely compete to see who can build the tallest building. We need to re-introduce real faction tension.
That's probably it. Players used to have an "I got your back" mentality. There were lots of players at all different levels, and plenty of actual competition. The problem is that competition always gets out of hand, and the rules that were put into place to prevent that also ended up created a much more mild-mannered server. Meanwhile, the class difference between the regular and the noob, whether or not said players are actually new or play frequently, has grown so much that growth has stagnated because there aren't any players who are considered "regulars" who don't already have everything they could possibly need, and people nowadays tend to ignore players who they percieve to be "noobs", probably due to Operation OP and the You-Know-Who fiasco.

TL;DR: There's no real competition and people really only pay attention to "regulars", who by and large have no reason to create new communities since they already have everything they really need.

p.s. I've found that my decision to rebuild Korriban has really revitalized my experience on the server, because I now have a purpose that I really care about: saving my old home. Contrasting that, when most veterans (including myself!) start new projects, they don't involve exciting new communities, but rather large buildings.

jk.
In my opinion, approximately 60% of veterans get banned/leave, but that doesn't explain some of the non-vets. i'm not sure why they leave, but they probably get banned, also.

wow, that kind of didn't really make sense, so 2 brownie points to whoever understood it!

The curse filter is something that needs to be adjusted for sure.

The only time I like its punishment is when you get the spammers and it bans them when they start going off. Other then that it should be the warning ingame, a kick, a 24hr ban then a ban till you appeal it on the forums.

Imagine that in other online games. They would have little to no players as well and would be changed quickly enough afterwards if they wanted to survive.

No. The rule is no swearing, and if they break the rule after being informed of it, they deserve to be banned.

Exactly. When I joined, there were regularly > 100 players, so it's certainly not "due to the filter".

I don't understand why people are bring up the swear filter in all of this.
The rule isn't "no swearing" it's "no swearing in PUBLIC CHAT".
Maybe we should inform people about buddy chat a bit more.
If people want to use coarse language they can in /b with their friends.
But right now that isn't causing low player numbers.

Maybe the list of 12 words that can't be aired on broadcast television. But I mean there are enough ban appeals where someone accidentally hits the up arrow and enter, or type .b instead of /b. Saying **** twice will get you banned.

You just answered your own question in this thread.

Every single server people play on have a long list of signs you're expected to read.

First and foremost, people are here to have fun, and super strict rules and enforcement are anything but that. I mean look at all those friends of Vortex that were banned for sharing accounts or being the same person or something - looking back the only thing they did was make the nether fun and encourage pvp.
