Apart from the local non-availability of many notebooks as mentioned by Ratta, and the fact that Australian pricing is much higher so you can't compare US$ to AUD$ purchases, would you care to post a pic (or link) showing the notebook in question?

This is the link to it. I have the I7 3rd gen, 2gb Nvidia 650m, Blue ray drive, Back-lit keyboard, 750gb HD 7200RPM's, Windows 8, and 16gb RAM (As it was upgraded and sold by another company from Amazon).

I think that should clarify the specs for it as there are a lot of different models of this that give for different uses depending on the person.

Nice notebook ... but it's not slimline, which was what I needed ;)

You pay a premium for mobility - lightness, thinness and battery life. The MacBook is just over half the thickness of the N56VZ (18mm vs 34mm), and weighs 2.0kg vs 2.7kg. It also has a 95wh battery instead of a 47wh battery, so battery life should be roughly double. For a business notebook that accompanies me on flights and roadtrips, I couldn't accept those compromises in the N56VZ.

Well, as that may be true, look back at what I said. The speed of that computer or a Mac in general will not be better than a PC (If you compare two of the best).

It might be more slim, which is for your personal use. (I don't mind holding a bit more weight). Lol.

It might have a long battery life (which I don't think it is twice as much because when I had a the Air, it lasted about 6 hours new, mine lasts 4 1/2).

BUT, the speed of a Mac isn't anything to a PC.

If you want something that travels with you for business, ect...

Get a tablet. Lol.

I'm just saying, this baby is making me mouth-water and i'm gonna go pick one up (or something around the thinness and power) next year before college starts up.

I'm a big gamer, however i'm gonna also need portability to work on all my projects during college since i want to get a mechanical engineering degree undergrad and a medical degree later on, so this baby will at least bring me through both hopefully.

Just FYI, the Macbook Pro Retina 15" (the one TeeJay has) benchmarks faster than pretty much all laptop PCs, including high end alienwares that cost just as much, etc. Along with having much longer battery life and being much much thinner.

Alo, the current macbook air has the longest battery life of any laptop on the market (15 hrs). tee jay's computer gets 9 hours, which is double yours...not to mention apple computers tend to last a bit longer than the claimed battery life.

Okay, it has been a while since I have read up on some specs for recent computers (the most recent probably being the new Macbook Pro 15inch)

This is a nice computer, don't get me wrong. I'm not a fanboy, I will say when a computer is good.

Macbook Pro 15":
I7 4th gen 2.0ghz
8gb RAM
256gb Flash storage
Retina screen
Uses Intel Iris graphics (which are about the same as the Nvidia Geforce 2gb 650m I have)
Battery life: 9 hours

I looked at this and said, "Wow, this is a nice computer".
Lets do some research on it.
Price: 2000 dollars. "Wait, what?" (of course, it is Apple.)

I LOVE the Intel 4th gen, can't get any better than that (but there will be many PC's coming soon with the 4th gen)

"8gb of RAM, that is good. Glad they upgraded that."

-Looks at my computer again, "16gb RAM"- Again, "Wait, what?"

256gb SSD. That is a pretty good amount of speed as it is a SSD, but what if you need more storage?
Another 60 to 100 dollars depending on the speed and size. (May be more)

Retina screen: Well, you can't argue with that much. They have nice screens.

Battery life of 9 hours (Research):
"under what I would consider "normal" use, you can count on getting between 6.5-7 hours of battery life on the 15-inch rMBP."

Well, that failed...

This thing doesn't even have a video card and it is costing me 2000 dollars, mine was 1200 for basically the same graphics and MUCH better hardware aside the screen.

Summary:

800 dollars more for:
Retina Screen
8gb LESS RAM
500gb LESS storage (although it is a SSD, so it has speed.)
2.5 to 3 hours more of battery life (mine is 4.5 (ACTUALLY TIME TAKEN BY ME) due to the video card, which you can actually shut off to get more battery)
And a gen better I7 (which is where it gets its graphics)

I have messed with both 2nd gen and 3rd gen i7's, honestly isn't much of a difference.

Honestly, it is a nice computer, But I don't believe that the specs are worth another 800 dollars.
