I've tried to get many different friends to come online and play on Minerealm and I get the same reactions from all of them. Too many rules, too strictly enforced. The cursing filter is usually a big turn off.

With that in mind, I play less because I can't convince any friends to stay on for longer than couple days.
"Survival" implies at least some element of anarchy that new people would expect, none of which exists here.
^This.

I mean, really? An application to purchase a realm? I thought this was a game, not an office-job simulator.

Minerealm (And all of Minecraft, for myself) has become so ludicrously boring and filled with...you know what, I can't even say because I'd probably be banned for hurting people's feelings or something.

I get that with a large server, you need to be pretty clear on the rules and have a fair amount of them to cover everything, and I love how easy it is to preserve our builds, but come on now. If someone doesn't log in for 30 days, their stuff should be up for grabs regardless of the purchaser's intent with the items. If someone is perma-banned, just disband their realms already! These are just two of the things I have a serious problem with with this server. That, and the swearing-filter.

I was going to type something informative and spent quite a few minutes but then I realized I'd just be arguing with a wall so it's pointless. I will say this people complained there was no concrete rules and now we provide a concrete thing along with a minor inconvenience and you act like the world is ending because you can't buy people's loot.

Makes me want to look back through everyone who complains realms/chest logs and see how many of you have been looting this whole time. We asked nicely for people to ask staff prior to purchasing realms people didn't play ball so face the consequences and minor inconvenience.

This thread got me thinking about Minecraft in general. It's been around for four years now, and I suspect Mojang will stop actively developing it sometime in the next year or two. They've got other projects like Scrolls competing with Minecraft for their attention, and IIRC Notch hasn't personally worked on Minecraft for quite some time.

1.7.2 is perhaps the best update we've gotten in a while, with the sheer number of new biomes and materials... but even though such updates enrich the existing components of the game, and I'd certainly welcome more such updates, they don't really introduce entirely new features. Hence the staleness. I'm personally hoping MC gets at least one or two more shots in the arm before Mojang calls curtains on it - massive updates that introduce a new dimension analogous to the nether or the end, or create an entirely new game mechanic analogous to potion brewing or enchanting.

Or they could always make new content based on some of the large mods, like the various components of the Tekkit and Hexxit packs (though frankly, I'm not sure those sorts of things belong in "vanilla" minecraft even though I enjoy them).

Welcome to Minerealm, here is a very long list of rules so strictly enforced you're more than likely to be banned within your first hour here.

****, are all these buildings legit?
Swear again and be banned.
***, no swearing?
You have been banned.

That's happened more than a couple times.

My point in my first post that this though - I shouldn't need to be in Skype with two friends I'm trying to convince to come play on Minerealm, meticulously explaining rules so they don't get banned on the walk out to my base.

I'm bitter because my guild is just me now, and no friends are even interested because how strictly rules are enforced.

Batbattle2002, the first one, my little cousin didn't even make it because he took some cobble out of a chest in the middle of no where and ended up banned.
Mjwiz, the second, and a friend made it, but hasn't logged on in a month because of the swear filter warning him, and not being allowed to mess with even cobble huts on the walk out.

Don't swear on here if it isn't allowed in-game. And as far as your example goes that just proves the point they didn't read the rules as it says no swearing on the signs at spawn. Granted I will give you the first one most don't consider it a swear but it is and the second is an abbreviation of a swear.

As far as your cousin goes he must have taken more than cobble to be banned, we wouldn't ban over something so tiny. What you just said is Mjwiz quit because he's not allowed to "grief" noob huts.

If the rules aren't enforced how else are other players supposed to play normally?

Couldn't you just as easily say that hardly anyone reads the rules and don't find out until they've broken one though?
That was my point - I just don't think it's fair to consider the signs, or forum posts as a warning about particular things.

With that said, I want to enjoy Minerealm, I really miss when my guild was active and when I had people to play with on it. 20 something realms are no fun when you're alone in them.
Those were the things, in my case that kept people I know from playing.
11hax wrote:MineRealm is a mix between Wild West and Soviet, which makes it hard to get sometimes.

While though I do agree with you people would just complain if we shoved the rules down your throats, so what is the ultimatum? By them not reading the rules they just set themselves up for a ban.

Yeah it definitely can't be the fact that the majority of our current playerbase is never-satisfied whiny children, right? I mean.. that would just make way too much sense. It's the fact that we have strict rules in place in order to protect the players/their builds that makes us such an unlikable server. Not the absolutely downright arrogant, insensitive, selfish, childish, players we have.

I suspect that part of the reason the populace is so dissatisfied is because they're bored and have nothing to do but complain. The 1.7 wipe should help with that.

And to some people, yeah, that's what makes it an unlikable server for some people. Just like I wouldn't play on a chaos server, some people don't want to play on a regulated, sophisticated server like MineRealm.

I personally don't think that the majority of our players are all those negative qualities you listed, at least most of the time, but we have enough players that those who are and the times they act like that tend to stand out. I do agree that there are some people who are jerks to noobs, but it doesn't seem to me that there are as many now as there were a month or two ago. I mean, I can think of plenty of people who are nice (or at least polite) to nubbehs, as well as nice in general. You, krin, Darth_Raven, TeeJayDub, Bu1ldog, Infamouspally, Meowrocket, bendrake57, Dreamer, burt, Ael, and of course Rokkr are a few.

I suspect the staleness comes from the fact that the community isn't exactly close knit anymore. There used to be faction wars, nether PVP, and large faction competition. Sadly, now there are no true battles anymore, besides the occasional nether camping, and factions merely compete to see who can build the tallest building. We need to re-introduce real faction tension.

Remove land protection, allow griefing and looting, and make pvp mandatory. Problem solved. ;)
