Will try at some point at answering the Derpy question. Will have to mull it over and work on any counter arguments. It's a complex area. Interesting, but difficult and I don't want to make a gaff of it.

In others news. What a great finale and end to season 4. An improvement in terms of animation and story telling with it being hard to find a duff episode overall during the season and DHX studios have shown that they can do a seasonal story arc which is reassuring. Now begins the long Pony drought until season 5 which should be next year.
In the meantime we should have Equestria Girls. Not sure if it will be screening in the UK, will have to make do with youtube or Itunes. So you'll have to let me know what you think of it when it hits the screens.

So I've been watching S4 now that I have some free time, and it's great. Rarity Takes Manhattan is a bit anvilicious, but fun nonetheless, and Pinkie Apple Pie is fantastic: it's funny, makes sense for the characters, has a great message, and uses Pinkie Pie well! I almost thought they'd forgotten how to do that. It's also nice to see Applejack with an original and emotionally resonant storyline, since she's such a difficult character to write for and doesn't get them very often.

Well, I'm off to watch Rainbow Falls. I admit, I'm a bit disappointed that they sacrificed the running gag with Snowflake (or "Bulk Biceps", I suppose), but I've yet to see where they take his character, so I'll reserve my judgement.

I'd recommend finishing the season when you can Skylord. The season finale is more than worth it in my opinion. One of the better ones that have been made. I'd like to say more, but I feel anything that I mention about it, even a little detail, could be seen as a spoiler.

It would seem that Lauren Faust is somewhat homophobic. She apparently thinks that sexuality has no place in MLP, which would be fine, except straight is a sexuality too, and she's got plenty of straight relationships in there, so she's basically just excluding gay and bisexual people. It's the whole "BUT WHAT WILL I TELL MY CHILDREN? THAT GAY PEOPLE EXIST? HOW TRAUMATIZING." Anyway, that's kind of disappointing. At least she isn't in charge anymore; although I won't deny that she had an enormous creative influence on the show, I don't think that any show, but especially one like MLP, should be headed by someone who excludes LGB people on principle.
