Honestly caffeine doesn't go through everyone at the same rate. Plus staring at a computer screen keeps you awake because of the type of light. That is why they have fluorescent lights in public schools.

But I wasn't staring at my screen for the whole time. I read a bunch and still wasn't sleepy.

Basic medical advice for insomnia:

1) Get at least an hour of exercise during the day. Morning exercise is best.

2) Avoid stimulants and liquids at least an hour before you plan to go to bed.

3) Make sure your getting propper nutrition - specifically eat more dark green and leafy vegetables, carbohydrates and foods rich in vitamins B6 and D.

You do not have Insomnia if you are in a position where you think its worth not taking a simple pill to get more sleep if you truly had Insomnia you would be begging to try anything, but if you are still seeking sleep related help:

Develop a regular sleeping schedule. Avoid daytime naps and stimulating activities just before bedtime.

Avoid stimulating drugs, such as caffeine and nicotine, particularly before going to bed.

Exercise during the day (but not in the late evening).

Avoid alcohol- it is a leading cause of poor sleep.

Minimize light and noise when trying to sleep..

Maintain a comfortable bedroom temperature.

Avoid heavy meals before bedtime. If hungry, do NOT eat a light carbohydrate snack. Eating carbohydrates before bed is actually the worst thing for insomnia-sufferers as it gives you energy. Rather try having something with chicken, broccoli, peanut butter, pork, or maybe even just a fruit or vegetable such as a banana.

He's got a point there - I was refering to total nutrition, any carbs or other form of quick energy is a bad idea near bedtime. My apologies for not being more specific in the first place.
