Also, can you read? I said to a point (like infecting it with viruses and the like) which includes botnets.

Ownership of an OS does not make that person an expert of that OS. If you are running a third party anti-virus on windows 8 and have not disabled windows defender... hate to tell you bro but your doing it wrong. Don't get me wrong there is no reason to be offended by that even if I can be blunt. Rather you should take that advise learn from it or even do your own research.

I can read fine... you specifically said you did not understand why the strict security is required on work/school laptops so I give a very generic example of why... allowing rouge software to do as it pleases on the network leads to technical support nightmares.
FYI: I am no expert on computers either I only have a Bachelors degree in Computer Engeenering and little over a decade of experience supporting Windows 1.3 - Windows 8 and OSX 1.3 - OSX 1.6.

My one peeve though is I cannot stand to see someone get told incorrect information, so I apologize if it feels like some personal attack. Honestly, I don't care in the slightest if you feel the need to make it one, because I will just ignore it.

I've decided to stay away from protein folding on my laptop because it brutally murders my battery. However, if you ever find yourself wanting to try something new and help the world, I suggest protein folding. There may come a day, though, when you find your laptop hates it.

Also, learning a bit of programming online might not be a bad idea. It's a great hobby.

I do have it disabled. If it wasn't meant to be a personal attack, then you really need to work on your wording, because your earlier comment was the most condescending thing I've read all year. Also, I did say that I can understand them not wanting viruses or the like, which includes botnets on their laptop's.

Now then, back to the topic at hand; Let's wait until he explains the ownership of the laptop to make any more suggestions.

You say a wi-fi notification system?
Do you have it at home?
Cause if you do then it's not connected to the school internet.
I have a similar laptop and when I got mine the discreet GPU was locked making it crap for games.
With a bit of help from an I.T friend I was able to delete the software stopping me from using the more powerful GPU.
That's just my experience.

Okay, let me make this clear. The laptop is mine, but I will use it for school. Because I will use it for school, there are some certain restrictions. The school doesn't want you playing games, going on Facebook, and Youtube, etc. WHILE using their wifi. Since it is still summer, when school hasn't started, I was wondering if I could play games. My parents said no, but I have no idea why, because school hasn't started. Why do my parents think I shouldn't play games on this? If I do add games on this NOW, will I get in trouble once I use the PC for SCHOOL? Note: I won't be playing any games once I use the PC for school. The school checks if you're on a certain website using their wifi. I am wondering if they can still track you down while you're at home. Thanks for listening, and if you can answer my questions, please reply down below. I hope this clarifies any confusion.

I don't believe they would be able to detect it if you are not connected to the school wifi.
PROTIP: If you do install games don't have desktop shortcuts for them.
Even better do what I do and put your games on an external hard drive.

If the school paid for it, then they may have monitoring software on it. If your parents paid for it, you're just going to have to take it up with them. But you still haven't given us an explanation of how exactly you came to have this lovely device, so we CANNOT actually help you, except to tell you to only use it for school stuff, because we don't know the terms and conditions. Anything else could get you in a great deal of trouble, it sounds like. If you were to explain what's going on, you'd probably get some usable advice.

If someone's terrible advice gets him in trouble, I am highly likely to hold that person partially responsible.

Also, don't just accept random advice from the internet; trolls might try and get you to do something that will cause you trouble.

My parents paid for it. What do you mean by terms and conditions? I came to have this device as a gift for having 4.0 GPA every quarter since 4th grade. But, I will use it for school.

Okay, sounds as if your school has restrictions on what SITES you can go on.
SO if you are not connected to the school internet then you should have NO problems playing games or get in trouble for doing so.
