Been working nights for the last 15 years, so the night time is the right time for me :) Its just not always fun and games(with kids). This is one of the reasons you see me up in the early hours of the night or maybe at work playing here, but come home to pass out. Sadly my son got me banned while i was sleeping one morning lol .. oh well

You can also try using on over the counter sleep aid. Most are just benadril and not addictive. Take one about an hour before you want to go to sleep. Then turn the air down so it is cool in your room, lay down, turn off all the lights so it is very dark, put on some Kenny G music, and stay in bed untill you fall asleep. This worked for me when I had to sleep during the day when I was on night shift.

PS The Kenny G part is a joke, but everything else is good. :)

In the Winter for me sleep is hard to come by. I don't get very much excersize so I have alot of left over energy. Correct me if I am wrong, but you live in Florida right? It is usually pretty warm there so maybe go for a jog an hour or two before you intend to go to bed. This will reduce your left over energy and the chemicals released in your body will make you feel tired so you can regain your energy.
Avoid computers and T.V.screens and phones an hour before you go to bed. The bluish light has been proven to activate your mind. That is why they use flourecent lights in school.
Try not to get to excited an hour before you go to bed. Excited mind doesn't sleep.
If you are excited try a slow calm book. No stephen king stuff.

Well that helps me. I hope it helps you.
Jailbird556.

PS- Benadryl works well as it makes you drowsy and it clears your nose :D

Edit- The effects of sugar and caffine can last up to 4-6 hours and you can start to feel the effects only 30 minutes after consuming. A general rule is to have minimal caffine and sugar after 3 PM.
Set yourself a regular bed time and a regular wake time. Lay in the dark till you fall asleep.
I keep forgeting tons of stuff I have learned online about sleep. Then I remember it and edit it in. :D

I beg to differ on the reading one, Ginga. Otherwise, I'd say: No caffeine for 4-6 hours before your intended bedtime, and turn off the electronics at 2-4 hours. I personally wind down quite well with a book at that point, though that also runs the risk of me just plowing through it if I'm at all close to the end. Being in your bed for the last hour or so should also help. Just what works best, if not perfectly, for me.

I would not recommend using over the counter meds unneccesarily. I would also avoid using any kind of sleep aid to try to get yourself back to normal, unless you are suffering from insomnia or narcolepsy.

The best thing I would say is to set an alarm clock to wake you up every morning. After a couple weeks you'll start naturally waking up at that time every day. By forcing yourself to wake up early, you'll find that you fall asleep easily at night.

Get a job.

Having something you HAVE to wake up for makes a big difference. I was the same way for a long time, and everytime that I've had a job, I HAVE to go to sleep early and wake up early. Having a job puts you on schedule and puts structure in your sleep patterns.

Either get a job or get a routine that forces you to wake up in the morning, say.. morning gym, or morning jog, or getting breakfast at McDonalds because breakfast stops early.

I used to wake up early just for that breakfast, then I'd go home and eat, and be wide-awake.
Also when you can't sleep for more then 20 minutes in your bed, try turning your ceiling fan on, and if you don't have a ceiling fan, get a floor fan. The repetitive sound and cold air, helps you fall asleep easier. It makes you blankets seem warm instead of sweating under them making you much more comfortable.

I've been having problems with sleeping up until I got my job, now I'm completely okay, I don't even take naps anymore.

This is the method the military uses in boot camp (at least the US military). Essentially, you are kept awake for nearly 36 hours before being given a chance to sleep. You then recieve a daily wake-up at the same time for several days in a row. This forcably resets your body clock, and weekly puts thousands of new enlisties on the same sleep schedule.

Make sure you have a wake-up method that you can't sleep through. The old alarm clock you've slept through for months won't help. A new alarm sound, a phone call, etc may be needed.
