Back in 1.7, when i accidentally updated my .jar to 1.8, i did a simple google search for "minecraft 1.7.jar" and found a legit one within a few minutes, I'm sure theres still alot for 1.8 too.

Just because its illegal, doesn't mean it won't be on google lol.

Just because you can find it on Google doesn't mean you can trust the source. If you're lucky there won't be trojan or password stealer mods installed in illegal copies you find on the internet.

Download McPatcher and see if it reads it as a normal minecraft.jar ... Otherwise check the contents.

For example, I know this one is modded:

He removed the META-INF to make sure it doesn't get noticed . I can't find any other Minecraft.jar.... although there will be enough on torrent sites, but I'm to lazy and I just play Skyrim!

there are a few different ways to get it back but i dont want to tell u :mrgreen: with so few people on theres no lag, and im sure it wont be long before servers updated anyway so give it a couple of days and everyone will be able to play again

Just back up .jars before updating. That's what my brother did in the 1.9 pre

As for the legality of having .jars online (in terms of Notch's terms of service), pretty sure this violates the letter of the law, though not the spirit of it. You're clearly not supposed to give copies of the files to anybody else, as indicated by the "Do not distribute!" message in the bottom right corner of the title screen. I doubt, however, that Mojang would sic their lawyers on you if they found out, since you already legitimately bought the game.
