It's Free, it's on PC and I can play cross-platform with my kids on their Xbox save worlds. All I'm seeing are pluses.

Watching that video though was painful. An uncoordinated monkey could have done a better job.
Has he ever played on a console before? Has he ever held a controller before? Heck has he even played Minecraft before?

Yeah, I had to skip around a lot to find info worthy portions. You could tell from the very start it was as if someone just came up to him while he was drinking that soda and he'd never played a video game before in his life and they just asked him to play the early win10 minecraft edition.

Although, as can be seen from other videos taken at Minecon, the event doesnt really get the care and attention it deserves so it isnt surprising.

They've made it clear that this version is only being developed so that xbox one users and potentially windows 10 phone users can all play on one intergrated platform. The Java version is not being phased out or anything. They're also making it free for the first such and such period of time for all people with the PC version.

That said I dont know that I'll be using this Win10 version much. It seems just as clunky and counter intuitive as the pocket edition.

Ahh. I see. Didn't have time to see that pop up. Thank you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_ ... extinguish.

Based on the policy above, as well as what they've said on Reddit (look for mojang_tommo), it sounds like Microsoft is trying to slowly phase out cross-platform Java-based normal Minecraft and replace with a version that only works with Microsoft products. Easy way of circumventing their contract to get exclusive access to MC and ruin it for people on other OSes. And even worse, it's basically MCPE on a PC.

If you don't want to look through the whole Reddit thread:

mojang_tommo wrote:Right now there's no way to do that that wouldn't piss off literally everyone, but of course it would be great to have only one version that runs everywhere.
This makes me very, very nervous.
