Pink sheep have been around as long as dyes have. They're rare, but not horribly uncommon...

I've seen pink sheep, but I've never seen one spawn naturally.

Pink sheep spawn very rarely (even moreso than brown ones). I've found a handful in single-player, and a couple here.

In 2.0 I saw a ton. Like there was one in my realm ever 1-3 days. 3.0 I haven't even seen one D:
