Today, I set out to do something none have done before: fly to spawn in a slime-block flying machine.
I succeeded, though not after several tries, making me the first to do this (as far as I know). The design for my machine (disclaimer—not my design, I just used it) can be found here. (Note: that alone is impossible to ride as you'll fall out. At eah's suggestion, I added a boat.)
First, I tried making one in the wrong direction. It took off before I could ride it. So it's still out there somewhere.
Second, I made one in the right direction starting at 0,-1300. It took off without me as well, but stopped for some reason, and I was able to climb up and jump-start it with a block update using my flint and steel. (If only that worked in real life!) I flew until it inexplicably stopped in Kroxic's realm around -600z. After a while of trying to get the blocks to update, I left. Sadly, only Kroxic had realm perms, so no one was able to help me, nor could I remove it.
The third time, I started at the same spot but a bit higher up (to avoid hitting my previous machine), and went all the way to spawn and beyond! I stayed until I reached public land. I tried to stop the machine then, but only ended up pushing myself out, falling while screaming in real life "Oh god, I'm going to dieeeeeeee!", and somehow teleporting under glass and ending up with one heart remaining. The machine kept going, followed by eah (who was following it the whole time from the ground), but I don't know what happened to it after that.
I have made an album of all of my screenshots during the journey. The second and third tries, anyway. Since I didn't want to go through them all, some will be irrelevant, but you can see coordinates in many of them, as well as me, eah, Final_Starman, and some others discussing it. And, of course, the stuff I was able to view from above!

In addition, some others (such as cob) also saw me over spawn, so if anyone else has screenshots that they'd like to post of me from the journey below, that would be awesome.
